How To Be Margaery Tyrell From 'GoT' For Halloween

by Rosie Narasaki

Really, when you think about it, it doesn't get much better than going full Game of Thrones for Halloween — after all, it's about the peak of pop culture relevance, plus it gives you a chance to wear the princess/warrior/prince/knight costume you've wanted to wear since you were a kid. Besides, there are so many awesome characters to choose from (I'm guessing there are going to be a lot of Zombie Jon Snows out and about this year). Really, though, when you think about it, there are few Westerosii with better style than Lady Margaery Tyrell — so who better to pay homage to this Halloween than her? Fortunately a last minute Margaery Halloween costume is totally possible to make.

Margaery wears a ton of awesome dresses throughout Game of Thrones (her wedding dress is still one of my favorite costumes on the whole show), but if you're going for recognizability, you might want to go for a bright blue gown. She's seen in the floaty color throughout her time on the show, dressed in rich gowns with intricate detailing. But, you don't have to be betrothed to Joffrey to get a look as fine as hers. Here's how to re-create Margaery's style on a budget.

1. The Dress

It's a little late in the game to DIY a Margaery dress of your own, but luckily, the Internet has you covered. (Though, if you are interested in working a little Project Runway-style magic, there are definitely GoT -inspired patterns for you out there). But, in the interest of saving time, pick up a blue maxi dress like this $39.90 one from Forever 21. The color and the lace detail will instantly give you a Margaery vibe.

2. The Hair

Now, if you're lucky enough to have long, flowing chestnut locks, Margaery's signature 'do isn't actually that hard to accomplish — just curl your hair and pin a few pieces back for an elegant half up look. Plus, luckily for us, there are a lot of tutorials out there to help explain how to achieve her hair style.

Alternately, if you don't happen to have the right hair for the look, you can always go for a wig like this one from Amazon for $12.34.

The Makeup

As you might expect, Margaery's makeup game is as on point as the rest of her style. It's a natural look, featuring rosy cheeks (and a Highgarden-worthy, lit-from-within glow), pink lips, and subtle neutral eyeshadow for a touch of drama (to get her signature doe-eyed look, of course).

And, there you have it — all you need to complete the look is Natalie Dormer's signature smirk. Bonus points if you can get someone to dress up as King(s) Joffrey and/or Tommen by your side. Oh, and don't forget Ser Pounce!
