You Need To Hear This Selena/Bieber Mashup

by Alex Kritselis

If you ask me, there are few things more annoying in this world than our seemingly endless fascination with Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber's relationship. They were together once! They're probably not together anymore! Who cares? Generally speaking, I try not to be a part of the problem, but today, I must make an exception: Pop artist Troye Sivan's Selena Gomez/Justin Bieber mashup for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is absolutely fantastic, and regardless of how you feel about the two young stars, you need to hear it immediately. Trust me, the 20-year-old Australian newcomer's medley of Gomez's new single, "Hands to Myself," and Bieber's latest chart-topper, "Sorry," is a thing of beauty.

Admittedly, before I heard Sivan's mashup, I was a little skeptical. To my ears, "Hands to Myself" and "Sorry" just don't sound anything alike! But somehow, the singer was able to weave them together seamlessly. Wait a minute... is this a sign that Gomez and Bieber should get back together ASAP?? No, of course not. Don't be ridiculous. This mashup proves two things and two things only: that "Hands to Myself" and "Sorry" are both great pop songs, and that Sivan is a seriously talented guy whom we need to keep an eye on in 2016. Check out his delightful creation below.

"Hands to Myself" and "Sorry" were both co-penned by Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter — one of pop music's hottest songwriting duos. Perhaps that's part of the reason why the two tracks work so well together? Who knows.

If this Gomez/Bieber mashup is your introduction to Sivan, be sure to check out his original material, as well. His debut album, Blue Neighbourhood , just premiered on Dec. 4, and it's available on iTunes and Spotify now. (In my humble opinion, "Wild," "Youth," and "Heaven" are the LP's three standout tracks.)

Happy listening!
