What Song Is Your Star Sign's Song?

by Kadeen Griffiths

I am constantly in need of new music. Between iTunes and Spotify, there just doesn't seem to be enough music in the world that I can afford and make room for on my iPod. So, since I have to be a bit discerning, I wish someone would just tell me what to listen to. Something that they know I'll like. Perhaps a song based on my zodiac sign, because everyone knows astrology is totally legit. All right, so maybe astrology is more of a guideline than a rule, but there's no denying the fact that what star sign you were born under means that there's a song out there that is perfect for you and other people who share your astrological sign. The universe has been telling us all what to listen to all along, if only we would stop and hear what the universe is saying.

Granted, I'm not the universe, and you don't have to listen to me. All I'm saying is that the songs I've chosen below basically encompass what I think that each of the star signs embody in their every day lives. You might like a song for a different star sign more than you like the song for your own, but the song for your star sign describes you as a person way better, OK? Just take my word on this. And, even if you don't want to take my word on this, I'm giving you new music here. As Drake would say, you can thank me later.

Aries (March 21 — April 20): "Bad Girls" By MIA

Speaking as an Aries myself, as the first signs in the zodiac and the ones known for being independent, courageous, moody, and impulsive, there are few lyrics in "Bad Girls" by MIA that don't describe the Aries experience. I'm particularly partial to "had a handle on... my life, I broke it" and "looking in the rear view, swagger going swell."

Taurus (April 21 — May 21): "Hurricane" By Halsey

Taurus-born people are dependable, loyal, stubborn, and materialistic, a force to be reckoned with once they dig their feet in and decide on a course of action. "Hurricane" by Halsey pretty much sums that up with the chorus "I'm a wanderess. I'm a one night stand. Don't belong to no city. Don't belong to no ma.n I'm the violence in the pouring rain. I'm a hurricane."

Gemini (May 22 — June 21): "Shaboom" By Randi DeMarco

"Shaboom" by Randi DeMarco is best known at the moment as the song from the Agent Carter Season 2 trailer, and it fits talkative, clever, restless, superficial Gemini to a T. "I'm slipping, keep sipping, sit back, relax, and listen. Getting hard to keep talking, talking. Boy, I'm losing my breath" anyone?

Cancer (June 22 — July 22): "Revival" By Selena Gomez

Cancers are caring, emotional, clingy, and self-absorbed, and they spend a lot of time on introspection as a result. "Revival" by Selena Gomez is an introspective song detailing her journey out of a dark period into her life and back into the light, and I feel that a lot of Cancers can relate to it.

Leo (July 23 — August 21): "Break The Rules" By Charli XCX

If you know a Leo, then you know exactly how confident, encouraging, domineering, and vain they can be. They're an exciting person to be around, even at their worst times, and "Break The Rules" by Charli XCX just gets them. If there are any rule breakers in your life, it's quite likely that they're a Leo, or just a Fire sign in general. They make their own rules.

Virgo (August 22 — September 23): "Grown Woman" By Beyoncé

Virgos are those members of the zodiac who can be counted on to be analytical, observant, critical, and cold. A Virgo knows what they want, knows who they are, and never accepts anything less. Just like Beyoncé's "Grown Woman," Virgos "can do whatever they want."

Libra (September 24 — October 23): "Diet Mountain Dew" By Lana Del Rey

Oh, Libra. Libras are graceful, idealistic, indecisive, and unreliable. They tend to be flighty, and superficial, and completely unable to make up their minds when it comes to things like what movie to see or what guy they like. "Diet Mountain Dew" by Lana Del Rey is basically a Libra in love, especially with the lyric, "Maybe I like this roller coaster. Maybe it keeps me high. Maybe the speed, it brings me closer. I could sparkle up your eye."

Scorpio (October 24 — November 22): "American Beauty/American Psycho" By Fall Out Boy

Scorpios are, in a word, intense. They are passionate, resourceful, jealous, and obsessive. They hang on to things, and don't let them go — ever. The shouting passion inherent in "American Beauty/American Psycho" by Fall Out Boy pretty much sums up a Scorpio. "I'm the best worst thing that hasn't happened to you yet. You take the full, full truth, then you pour some out," anyone?

Sagittarius (November 23 — December 22): "Energy" By Drake

The Sagittarius in your life is independent, gregarious, unemotional, and blunt to the point of rudeness. Sagittarius-born people tend to rack up a lot of enemies in their lives — not on purpose, but because they tend to be a little (a lot) insensitive in their actions or their words. Hence, Drake said it best in "Energy" when he said "I got enemies, got a lotta enemies. Got a lotta people tryna drain me of this energy."

Capricorn (December 23 — January 20): "Alright" By Kendrick Lamar

Capricorns are responsible, ambitious, distrusting, and overbearing. When they commit themselves to a social justice issue, and many of them do, then you can bet they will fight tooth and nail for it, just like they fight tooth and nail for everything in their lives. Kendrick Lamar's "Alright" reflects that social awareness, along with the same reassurance that things will be OK in the end.

Aquarius (January 21 — February 19): "Weird People" By Little Mix

Those born under the sign of Aquarius are humanitarians who are witty, original, rebellious, and sarcastic. Honestly, "Alright" would be a good song for them too, for different reasons than it is for Capricorn. However, "Weird People" by Little Mix is a better fit for the bouncy Aquarius, because these colorful characters tend to be some of the strangest, and best, people you could ever hope to meet.

Pisces (February 20 — March 20): "The Feeling" By Justin Bieber

Pisces-born people are devoted, compassionate, overly sensitive, and prone to escapism. "The Feeling" by Justin Bieber, with help from Halsey, is all about examining your own emotions and trying to figure out if you feel something for someone or if you just like the idea of feeling something for someone. This is actually a pretty common problem for Pisces to run into.

See? No matter what your star sign, there's one song out there that just gets you on a level you have never been understood on before. You're welcome, fellow astrology fans.
