Exciting News For 'The Royals' Fans

by Courtney Lindley

Your favorite royal family is back. (No, not the Kardashians.) E! Entertainment has announced the original scripted drama, The Royals, will be getting a third season, and I think I speak for every single fan of the show, when I say "Yas Queen (Helena)." Currently, we're in the midst of Season 2 of the show, which airs every Sunday and is led by Elizabeth Hurley (Queen Helena), William Moseley (Liam), Alexandra Park (Eleanor), and Jake Maskall (Cyprus).

The drama series, produced, written, and directed by Mark Schwahn, ranks as one of 2015’s top new scripted cable series, according to a press report sent out by E! Entertainment. Jeff Olde, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Development at E! said they were "proud" of the success, and continued, "The series has captured fans and brought them into a regal world of sexy, fun drama. We can’t wait to see what season three will bring and what surprises are still in store as we enter the second half of season two.” Spoiler alert: probably more sexy, fun drama.

Season 2 of The Royals has some impressive stats, averaging a total of 1.3 million viewers. Maybe that's because of all the intricate lies, and deviously compelling story lines, like murder, fabricated paternity results, and cancer (to name a few). I won't give too much away, but just know there's a reason 1.3 million people are tuning in to watch all of this go down. If you haven't given it a chance, an obsessive marathon session is never too late.

E! Entertainment's success (it's the fastest growing entertainment network in primetime for viewers between 18 and 49, according to the same press release) is due in part to The Royals, so I think it's fair to say that this third season pick up is a smart move on E!'s part.

Kevin Beggs, Lionsgate Television Group Chairman, also stated in the press release, “We are delighted by today’s pick-up announcement for season three of The Royals. The Royals reflects the kind of original, noisy and provocative series that is a Lionsgate signature. We look forward to an all-new season of palace intrigue and badly behaved royals with our partners at E! and Universal Cable Productions." Kevin Beggs, you are not the only one.
