Who Is Brie Larson Dating?

by Daniela Cabrera

This past summer, millions of movie-goers laughed and cried along with Amy Schumer in her debut semi-autobiographical feature film Trainwreck, which left many wondering: Who was the actor playing Schumer's character's sister, Kim? Her face might have looked familiar to some, but the woman behind Kim, Brie Larson, was just on the cusp of breaking out into one of the year's most promising actors. After reaching virtually unanimous acclaim as a young mother in Room (which is already gaining plenty of awards season nominations), there's no doubt that people want to know more about the young actor. You know, very important things like: Who is Brie Larson dating?

Hey, that's just the natural progression of becoming a new fan, right? I always wonder if stars are dating a high school sweetheart or a previous co-star or if they're single and mingling, because dating in Hollywood has proven to be a very difficult task. Well, it seems like she has found the real, long-term deal. Larson has been dating musician Alex Greenwald, formerly of Phantom Planet, for at least two years. For all of you O.C. fanatics out there: Yep, I'm talking about the same Phantom Planet that performed the shows legendary opening sequence song, "California."

I am already a little jealous of that fact, and my envy has only grown after reading about the little details of their relationship, because they are certainly awww-inducing. In a recent profile on BuzzFeed, Larson explained that she has anxiety when it comes to sharing about her personal life, which she attributes to her homeschooling and general shyness. She said,

Because we put ourselves in a movie or on TV, then it must mean we want to be completely open to the world. Sometimes people will run up to you as if this is Disneyland and I’m a character.

It seems like this is a more recent development as she did speak about Greenwald by name way back in 2013. In December 2013, Larson won Best Actress for her role in Short Term 12 at the IFP Gotham Awards, and gave a peek into her life with her boyfriend when she said in her acceptance speech,"And I'd like to thank my boyfriend, Alex Greenwald, for making me pasta and taking care of our puppy while I made this movie."

Well, this leads me to believe that since they already owned a puppy together, that they were probably already dating for a while at that point. In June 2014, Vulture did a piece on Larson and her BFF Shailene Woodley, where the writer got another peek into her life with Greenwald, and it seemed like a perfect, boho California dream. Larson was described as "putting plates with artfully arranged food on her dining-room table at her two-bedroom ranch-style house in Studio City in the San Fernando Valley" while her boyfriend Greenwald "was working on a song in the living room."

I mean, how much more idyllic can you get? She was even wearing a vintage red sundress! In September of this year, Larson alluded to Greenwald's new band, Phases, in a supportive tweet and he replied back very casually, in a way that would make you never guess they knew each other so closely.

But hey, that's probably what makes this adorable couple work in spite of her growing fame: They are happy in their privateness. May their perfectly adorable romance keep going strong.
