These Were The Most Absurd Celeb Looks Of 2005
Thank God for the amount of jaw-droppingly awesome style moments of the early 2000s, because something has to make up for the absolutely absurd things celebs wore on the regular back then. Take J.Lo's iconic Versace dress for instance. You know, the one that didn't just break the Internet, but practically invented it. Or who could forget Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake at the 2001 VMAs, serving up denim on denim realness? Without killer red carpet moments like these, I'd have to seriously reconsider the early 2000s as groundbreaking years in fashion. For every celeb look that slayed, there were at least three questionable fashion choices made by some other A-lister nearby. And the fifth year of the decade was particularly filled with these types of ensembles.
In 2005, Gwen Stefani gave us "Hollaback Girl," Brangelina was born, and Kanye West kicked off a string of shockers with his famous George Bush line. Unfortunately, we also witnessed some cringe-worthy fashion that year. And, yes, we all tried to recreate those looks at home. Let's be grateful that fashion has evolved and so have our fave celebs, because these 17 getups from 2005 definitely landed Hollywood's hottest on the worst dressed list.
1. Pamela Anderson's Crop Top & Skirt
Pamela Anderson is known for her sexy outfits, but this ultra crop top and mini skirt is extra daring. You have to admire her confidence!
2. Rachel Bilson's Dress Over Shirt
All of these layers, and not a single piece of Rachel Bilson's ensemble is working for her. And we all fell victim to the "more is more" mindset during this period. She even layered on two completely different necklaces. Oh, but how we loved those oversized belts in the mid aughts.
3. Lil Kim's Everything
Again, layering was queen in 2005. Who didn't have the experience of throwing everything but the kitchen sink on in the morning?
4. Rihanna's Bedazzled Pants
Oh young and innocent RiRi... those embellished pinstriped pants are just way too much. Love the red Chucks though!
5. Avril Lavigne's Punk-y Dress
Avril Lavigne was basically the early aughts' punk goddess, so you know we were all trying to copy her pirate-style ensembles.
6. Fergie's Cropped Pants
Ah, yes, 2005 was the year of our beloved half pants.
7. Ashley Tisdale's Skirt Over Jeans
Here we have Ashely Tisdale mistakenly thinking a sequin skirt looks lovely layered over bell bottom jeans — a look I know you all tried at home, too.
8. Paris Hilton's 2-In-1 Gown
Maybe I'd be down for a maxi dress with Paris Hilton's bottom half. Maybe I'd accept a cocktail dress with her top half. But the two together goes along with that "ALL OR NOTHING" mantra that got us all in trouble in the 2000s.
9. Jessica Simpson's Dress
Why did we all love mixing patterns on a single garment so much in 2005?
10. Jennifer Lopez's Cardigan
That cardigan! That belt! Those bangles! This was the cool girl closet starter pack in 2005.
11. Dennis Rodman's Crop Tops
OK, yes, this is insane. But that's sort of his thing, right? And we all wanted patches on our pants in 2005.
12. Ciara's Denim... Culottes?
The half pant strikes again! Those shoes are fly AF though.
13. Kelly Osbourne's Tunic
My inner 2000s emo kid is swooning.
14. Taraji P. Henson's Corset
In 2005, we wore our corsets over our shirts.
15. Alicia Keys's Safari Shirt
A shirt wasn't truly cool in the 2000s unless it completely covered your crotch.
16. Anne Hathaway's Feathered Tunic
Is it a dress? Is it a shirt? We all were a bit confused about the proper length for garments back then.
17. Will.i.am's Velvet Bloomers
We all know Will.i.am dances to the beat of his own drum. That doesn't mean all that confidence and creativity didn't land him in some pretty ridiculous outfits.
We might still see some pretty questionable looks down the red carpet today, but at least these 2005 trends have retired.
