You Don't Want To Miss The SAG Awards
From swooning over gowns to watching/studying movies you may previously have never heard of to predicting winners, awards season is in full swing. While many entertainment fans were glued to the Golden Globes hoping for Oscars indicators, I'm here to say don’t fill out your ballot or company pool just yet. There is still another Academy Awards precursor — the Screen Actors Guild Awards. And, here's which channel are the 2016 SAG Awards on, so you don't miss a thing.
The 22nd annual SAG Awards will air Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at 8 p.m. ET on two networks. The award show will be simulcast on both TNT and TBS, with live online red carpet coverage beginning at 6 p.m. ET. The red carpet can also be seen on E! starting at 6 p.m. ET.
But, most importantly, what even is SAG? SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) is a union for professional television and film actors, according to their website. The site also states that “SAG-AFTRA represents more than 160,000 actors, announcers, broadcaster journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists, and other professionals.” The industry nature of this event makes the award coveted and revered among Hollywood’s best actors.
So, now you know how to tune into the SAG Awards and what they are, but why should you watch the show — aside from charismatic celebrities and haute couture? For the following reasons, of course.
They Can Help Predict The Oscars
Movie buffs often look to the SAG Awards for Oscars precursors.
They Can Help Predict The Emmys
Like the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards also honors both television and film, so they can be a look ahead at which shows the Emmys will pay attention to.
Ensemble Casts Are Recognized
In most awards show acceptance speeches, you'll hear the winner announce something like, "I couldn't have done it without such a great cast." The SAG Awards honor that by presenting awards to ensemble casts in film, television comedies, and television dramas. So, you get to see all your favs on stage at once.
There Is No Host
According to SAG producer Kathy Connell, in a Q&A posted on the SAG's website, the awards show has chosen to go host-less in order to concentrate on the actors being honored.
We chose to not have a host was because we didn’t want the time taken away from the people we were honoring. Our show is just two hours long. We wanted the whole evening to be about the actors and not about one personality.
Tina & Amy Will Be There
While the dynamic duo is not hosting the event, these funny women are getting together for a pretty cool reason. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will present Carol Burnett with a Lifetime Achievement Award this year, honoring Burnett's prolific comedic career.
So, be sure to tune in on Saturday to see it all go down!
