15 Shoes You Owned In The Early '00s, Because They Were All Glorious Pieces Of Footwear— PHOTOS
Oh the early ‘00s, when funny “futuristic” trends blended with the late ‘90s to create some weird, and weirdly glorious shoes. If you were as fashion obsessed as me in those years, you’ll definitely remember all these shoes you owned in the early ‘00s. Subtlety and minimalism were not exactly on trend yet, and everything was loud, boho, and seriously bright.
Sitting here in my simple black snow boots in a little Brooklyn coffee shop, I’m feeling super nostalgic for the days of rainbow colors and those super painful (but freaking adorable) jelly sandals. Was there really even any way to prevent getting blisters in those shoes?
If you, too, are craving a brightly-shoed skip down memory lane, all the shoe styles below are bound to give you the warm fuzzies (or the sad, sad “why did I ever jam my feet into those?!" shudders). Also, how did we seriously all manage to find closet space for the number of funkily-shaped shoes featured? #MadSkills you guys.
From jelly sandals to cowboy boots, here is every shoe you probably owned (or wanted to own) in the early '00s.
1. UGG Boots
You either owned these or had a knock-off pair, and you wore them with everything, from sweats to denim skirts.
2. Strappy Gladiator Sandals
So, so many straps, but so worth the effort.
3. Cowboy Boots
Your cowboy boots were definitely not the kind you'd want to wear around actual cows, because they probably also had Swarovski crystals and bright leather detailing, too.
They really were just so comfy and came in literally every color your heart desired.
So cute, but so hard to keep on.
6. Jelly Sandals
Jellies should never, ever be forgotten.
7. Skater Shoes
Pretty sure we can all thank Avril Lavigne for the skater shoe takeover.
8. Fringed Boots
So. Much. Boho.
9. Slouchy Boots
Maybe we should all blame Pirates Of the Caribbean, because anyone who was anyone had cool, slouchy boots. Obvs.
10. Chunky Sandals
Oh, the tan lines.
11. Ballet Flats
Eighth grade uniform, am I right?
12. Air Force 1s
All the cool kids always rocked a crisp white pair of these.
13. High Heel Sneakers
They said, "I'm sporty," but "I'm chic" at the same time.
I don't even want to know the number of sprained wrists these caused.
15. Platform Flip Flops
Who cares how many times you tripped in them — they were SO cute.
