Gwyneth Paltrow Rocked Spring's Biggest Trend

by Eliza Florendo

In fashion, when it comes to the word "trend," it can intimidate — They're often associated with being too pricey, or just too hard to pull off. Gwyneth Paltrow, however, showed us why a trend doesn't have to be so scary: On The Tonight Show, she rocked the pom pom trend, making this super cute accessory totally wearable for us mere mortals.

When it comes to spring 2016 trends, there are quite a few: Off the shoulder tops, athletic wear, lingerie as everyday clothing, and lots and lots of lace. But perhaps the biggest one I've seen infiltrate New York City is the pom pom. Playful, fun, and totally adorable, the pom pom trend is a nod to our childhood — Before we felt we had to fit in to be fashionable. Maybe that's why I love it so much: They let your inner kid out, and actually feel refreshing and new in a sea of blacks, whites, and neutrals (I'm guilty of this, too, and proud, but sometimes, you need a little pop).

And when it comes to the pom pom, they don't discriminate. Find them on bags, on shoes, on earrings, and in Gwyneth's case, on belts. The more unexpected, the better. And while I've only been able to bring myself to wear them in black, they're so much more fun in an array of colors.

In Paltrow's case, she paired it with a white thin strapped midi dress and electric blue heels. The simplicity is absolute perfection, and with a little pop of color, her look strayed away from looking too monochromatic and simplistic.

Obsessed with how cute these little poms are.

Just because we grew up and had to act like adults (I'm speaking for myself, I'm 100% acting...), doesn't mean our wardrobes have to, too. When styled correctly, the pom pom trend can actually be ultra chic and professional — While super cute and fun, too. And that's the best kind of combination.
