Adult film stars are using Twitter to respond to the death of Amber Rayne. Rayne, aged 31, was found dead in her home, with the cause of death yet to be confirmed. According to The Guardian, her death appeared to be the result of an accident or overdose, but nothing has been confirmed. Born Meghan Ren, the actress had also produced, directed, and edited adult film and worked in the industry for 10 years, from 2005 to 2015. She was also an avid horseback rider and dressage enthusiast, with photos of horses and riding covering her social media accounts. Also a massive sports fan, friends remember her as "a beautiful soul."
In addition, many have come forward to point out that several outlets reported her death without mentioning her name in the headline. Instead, they referred to her as one of the women who had accused fellow adult film star James Deen of sexual assault. The accusations against Deen, a popular porn star, made worldwide headlines, and according to The Guardian, "Rayne was one of five women to recently accuse fellow porn star James Deen of assaulting her during a scene, joining porn star Stoya in coming forward." Deen denied the claims made against him in November on Twitter, calling them "false and defamatory."
Although her allegations are undoubtedly a part of her story and she should be remembered for her bravery, she deserves far better than just being described in relation to her alleged assaulter, a point that Twitter users have rightly been quick to mention:
