'GoT' Season 6 Needs To Check In On Rickon Stark

by Lindsey Kupfer

There are so many Stark children that it’s aggravating to keep tabs on all their whereabouts. And as we get ready to welcome Bran back onto the show, some people may be wondering, “Where is Rickon Stark?” The youngest Stark has been MIA for two seasons now, and I’m kind of hoping they address this at some point in Season 6 of Game of Thrones . The last time he came up was when Theon revealed to Sansa that he didn’t actually kill him and Bran, and they might still be alive somewhere. Maybe Sansa will go on a mission with Brienne this season to reunite the Starks. Unfortunately, we all know what happens whenever the Stark family tries to get back together. So much death.

At the end of Season 3, Bran decided that he was going north of The Wall to find the Three-Eyed Raven, but that Rickon should not come with him. Bran told Osha to take Rickon to Last Hearth, where Stark bannerman Greatjon Umber rules. Bran said he would be safe there, and that’s the last we heard about it. It’s entirely possible that Rickon made it there and is living a normal life completely free of drama, but does that really sound like a something Game of Thrones would do? Things never go well for the Starks.

While the show may have moved beyond Rickon's journey, there are clues in the book as to where Rickon might be. In A Dance with Dragons , Davos goes to White Harbor to try to convince Lord Wyman Manderly to fight alongside Stannis Baratheon. Manderly says that he will recognize Stannis as king if Davos goes to an island called Skagos, where Rickon is, and safely bring him home. Skagos is on the northeastern coast of Westeros, in the Bay of Seals. According to the Game of Thrones Wikia, the people of Skagos rebelled against the Starks. It’s safe to assume that Rickon is not having a good time there. Davos sets off to rescue him.

But it looks like the show won’t be following the books. Since Stannis is already dead, there’s no reason for Davos to set out on a rescue mission. Plus, Davos is busy protecting Jon Snow’s body, which is far more important than saving Rickon, who’s pretty irrelevant at the moment.

There are a few ways this could go. Rickon could actually be hanging out in Last Hearth. Maybe he and Osha made it there and haven't left. They could also be there, but not safe. Just because someone was loyal to the Starks at one point doesn't meant they still are. Greatjon Umber could be on Roose Bolton’s side. That’s a definite possibility. Another theory is that Sansa and Brienne will go to Skagos instead of Davos. They do make quite a team together. Finally, we could get Rickon updates via Bran's visions. We may not see him in person, but now that Bran can hop into the minds of people and animals, there's a good chance he will want to check in on his little brother.

Either way, I can't be the only person wondering where little Rickon ran off to, and hopefully Season 6 will answer some of these questions.
