Callie & Arizona's Custody Battle Could Get Ugly

by Lindsay Denninger

If there was any storyline I wasn’t sure that we were going to see on Grey’s Anatomy, it was that of a bitter custody battle between Arizona Robbins and Callie Torres. Sure, they had their differences, went to therapy, and eventually got divorced, but I thought that we were past all that. Callie and Arizona seemed to co-parent just fine, and that’s the hardest part of all this. But now, Callie wants to move to New York, Arizona doesn’t want her to take their daughter to New York, and Callie and Arizona are locked in a custody battle on Grey’s Anatomy .

You see, Callie wants to move to New York so she can be with Penny, who got offered a position of like, queen of the world or something. I’m still not sure why Callie is following Penny around, but I digress. Instead of checking with Arizona for realsies about what she thought about New York, Callie started submitting applications for preschools and basically planning Sophia’s trip to the Plaza Hotel. Now, both Arizona and Callie are trying to convince their friends at Grey Sloan to side with them. It’s a big old mess, but it doesn’t matter in the end — Callie is going to win custody of Sophia, and that’s that.

I don’t mean to be harsh on Arizona here, but Sophia is not her biological child. Sophia is the child of Callie Torres and Mark Sloan, who is now deceased. She has one living parent (technically), and I really think that the courts will side with Callie and she’ll take Sophia to New York. While this would be crushing for Arizona, what if Callie dies and Sophia is then given back to Arizona? There are rumors that Sara Ramirez, who plays Callie Torres, isn’t coming back to Grey’s Anatomy , so maybe this is just a way to make that into a very interesting storyline.
