Rachel Bloom Channels The Real "Teenage Dream"
What exactly is so fascinating about watching celebrities lip sync to some of our favorite hits? I have no idea, and yet here I am, once again getting really excited about the new Lip Sync Battle. But can anyone blame me? The people chosen by the show are always perfect, and the songs they perform have the tendency to bring lots of love. This time around it's Rachel Bloom on Lip Sync Battle , and, if you don't know why that's exciting, then I feel so bad for you. Bloom is a comedian and actress who is known for writing as well, and for her performance as the lead role of Rebecca Bunch in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Yes, this is not a drill. Bloom will be on Lip Sync Battle. Are you ready for this?
The hilarious lady will be dabbing on some acne and rocking a band uniform and fake flute to lip sync to Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream." This portrayal of Perry's song is even funnier, because the original music video makes teenagers seem so cool. Perry as teenager is driving in a car with her 20something-looking boyfriend and going to the beach. Maybe teens in California are just that cool that they dress impeccably and have a great time with their attractive friends — but I'm sure many of us can agree our experiences were more acne and bored, walking around doing nothing, and less really muscular bodies and outdoor parties.
Bloom goes against Michael Shannon June 16 at 10 p.m. EST. I'm sure he'll do wonderfully as well, since he's a talented actor hailing from Boardwalk Empire and other dramatic pieces, and it will be nice to see him get goofy. But, judging from the preview of Bloom's performance, he's got some tough competition. Her facial expressions are seriously on point. I can just imagine a young Bloom sitting in the back of her math class giving weird googly cow eyes to the hunky quarterback solving an equation at the chalkboard.
LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen, the hosts of Lip Sync Battle better recognize the wonder and awe that is Rachel Bloom (or as I like to call her, my best friend crush). Even if they don't, this episode is going to be lit.
