'OITNB' Shows Celeb Photos Are Worth Major Money

Just when you think you know the whole cast of Litchfield, some new prisoners get incarcerated to throw us all off. The newest Orange is the New Black prisoner is ex-cooking show host Judy King, and I’m sure she’s about to cause a stir (pun intended) when she lands in jail after being found guilty on tax evasion charges. Having a celebrity behind bars at Litchfield had me thinking — how much does a celebrity photo sell for? You know one of the inmates on Orange Is The New Black is going to try to snap a pic for some quick cash.

You may remember Poussey and the other Litchfield ladies watching the Judy King trial in Season 3, and they were happy when she was found guilty, since there was a good chance she’d land at Litchfield. King self-surrendered in the Season 3 finale, and boy, was she pissed when no one was there to answer her or check her in. King seems to have an attitude, and I have a feeling that will get knocked down pretty fast as soon as those metal bars clank shut behind her. She’ll be a walking target, and even though, cell phones and cameras aren’t allowed at Litchfield, there will be plenty of people trying to get a piece of Judy King to sell or show off. Since I really didn’t know how much money Taystee or Poussey or Morello could get for a decent shot of Judy King, I did some research, and wow. They could fill their commissary for a long time.

Upon the birth of their twins, Pitt and Jolie were not going to take any chances in letting a paparazzo snap a pic of their new babies. So what did they do? They seemingly decided to do things on their own terms and reportedly sold the rights to the babies’ first photos for a whopping $14 million, according to TODAY, which reported that UK-based Hello! and People split the bill. According to TODAY, that money allegedly went to one of Pitt and Jolie’s many children-focused foundations.

According to a report from Huffington Post, pictures of Kardashian and Kanye West don't fetch the bounty that other celebrity couples do because Kim "saturates the market." She is everywhere, all the time, so the public doesn't necessarily want to see the pictures. That doesn't stop some images from selling, though — a snap of Kardashian in a bikini on her honeymoon with Kris Humphries reportedly fetched $100,000, according to the Huffington Post article.

Anna Nicole Smith

Forbes reported that Dan Wakeford, then-executive editor of In Touch, paid over $400,000 for a picture of Anna Nicole Smith and her son Daniel in 2006. Why so much? Daniel died from a medication overdose hours after the photo was taken, according to People. Of the photo, Wakeford told Forbes, “This was every mother’s worst nightmare, and through these pictures, America could empathize with what Anna Nicole was going through.” Yikes.

It's no wonder that the inmates at Litchfield are going to want in for pictures of Judy King. It appears they can make some serious bucks with just one image.
