Here's Who Taylor Swift Has Dated

by Nicole Pomarico

I don't know about you, but I'm still having trouble wrapping my mind around the fact that Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston are dating — or, at least, that it seems that way. After photos of the two of them together looking pretty romantic surfaced last week, this new couple has been all over social media, mostly in the form of some of my favorite memes that have ever existed. But at the same time, Swift's new alleged love has inspired a lot of talk about her past relationships, and not all of it is nice. So who has Swift dated? Like, for real, without all that misogynistic exaggeration? A small collection of guys that most of us have probably crushed on at some point in our lives, if we're being honest.

I don't know how easy it will be to move on from how adorable she and Calvin Harris were together, but apparently, #Hiddleswift is where it's at these days, and we can all try to get used to it together. And when you consider the other men she's spent time with in the past, the fact that they're together makes a little more sense.

Here's who Swift's actually dated — as in, the relationships she's talked about and confirmed. Haters to the left, please!

Joe Jonas

Swift and Jonas dated in 2008, a time when a lot of us (me included) were super obsessed with the Jonas Brothers at the height of their fame. As adorable as they were together, it just wasn't meant to be — probably because they were both constantly traveling and they were teenagers, aka at an age where stable relationships aren't exactly anybody's specialty. Their breakup did bring a lot of good music into the world, including Swift's song "Forever and Always," where she explained how she felt after Jonas dumped her during a 27 second phone call. Yikes!

Taylor Lautner

In 2009, Swift dated Lautner after meeting him on the set of Valentine's Day. When they broke up three months later, there were far less fireworks than what came after her relationship with Jonas. Just as big of a bummer, though, since they were super cute together.

John Mayer

Since basically all my favorite female celebrities have fallen into Mayer's claws (looking at you, Katy Perry and Jennifer Aniston), it shouldn't have been surprising as it was that Swift dated Mayer in 2010, too. But it wasn't a very amicable breakup, and as incredible as Swift's song about the situation, "Dear John," was, Mayer wasn't pleased about it. At the time, he told Rolling Stone he "didn't deserve" to be called out like that, and later, one of his songs, "Paper Doll," was highly rumored to be his response.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Although Swift and Gyllenhaal were never officially confirmed, there was plenty of paparazzi photo evidence, and Anne Hathway (of all people) admitted they dated in a 2015 interview with Glamour. Their relationship — which spanned part of 2010 — was mostly low key, although it did reportedly inspire one of my favorite Swift songs of all time, "All Too Well." Go ahead, try to listen to that song in the car without screaming the lyrics. I dare you. Oh, and the age gap? Keep in mind that Gyllenhaal is the same age as Swift's new BF, Tom Hiddleston.

Conor Kennedy

As far as what's publicly known about Swift's relationship with Conor Kennedy, they only dated for a few months in the summer of 2012. Their romance existed mostly in idyllic photos of the two of them hanging out in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, playing in the water and basically looking like a couple straight out of the '40s. Unfortunately, it did not last, and by October, they were done.

Harry Styles

Styles will forever be my favorite Swift ex, if for no other reason than if I don't get to date him, I'm glad she did. Their love was brief — lasting only from the end of 2012 to the beginning of 2013 — but it will live in my heart forever, especially since they both ended up writing songs about their time together that immortalizes #Haylor permanently. Plus, they were just so cute!

After a long time of being on her own, Swift took the leap and started dating Harris in 2015, and it marked the first time she was truly open about the relationship she was in while she was actually in it. From their adorable photos on Instagram to the way they talked about each other on social media and in interviews, it seemed like Swift and Harris were the real deal... which is why it was so heartbreaking when they abruptly broke things off in May 2016. My dreams of Swift giving birth to blonde, EDM-loving babies with Scottish accents have died, but the memories are here to stay forever.

And now, this brings us to the present; the era where Swift and Hiddleston are so in love that he was willing to attend a Selena Gomez concert with her. Looks like true love to me, everyone. But even so, I'll really believe it when Swift shares a photo of the two of them floating on a swan raft together. That's how you know it's real.
