Don't Expect Beyoncé At The TCAs This Year

by Alyssa Giannone

We all know how truly incredible Beyoncé is, from her music to her fashion to her politics to her hair. She's an important icon to men and women of all ages everywhere. Sure, that sounds blanketed, but this is a woman who's won an insane amount of awards in her career so far, and has been nominated for Choice Female Artist and Choice R&B/Hip-Hop Artist at this year's Teen Choice Awards. So, I think that blanket statement is true. But now that she has the nominations, will Beyoncé be at this year's Teen Choice Awards?

2015 was an in-between year for the pop star, coming off of her On The Run tour and self-titled album from the previous year, and getting ready to drop Lemonade in early 2016. She wasn't nominated at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards and didn't make an appearance, but her nomination in 2014 brought her to the show. So will these two nominations bring Yoncé back again? I can only hope, considering the last time she attended the awards before 2014 was in 2001 with Destiny's Child (and those pictures are priceless).

So, what do we make of all this? Will Beyoncé come to the awards following the success of her most recent album, Lemonade, and the nominations that came with it? I'm not so sure she will.

Unfortunately, there are a few reasons Beyoncé won't be attending the Teen Choice Awards this year. For one, she's on her Formation Tour and will be performing in Brussels, Belgium the same night as the TCAs. I'm sure Brussels wouldn't be happy if she ditched her show to be at an awards show in the States.

Another reason is that her history of awards show appearances is slight. She goes to the Grammys each year because it's the Grammys, the who's-who of music that night and she knows what her music deserves as much as we do. She attends the Video Music Awards because her videos tend to get nominated and she's performed in the past. For instance, this year, "Formation" is nominated at the VMAs for Video of the Year and five other awards. But when it comes to the TCAs, her attendance is much, much lower.

Even though Beyoncé did surprise everyone with Kendrick Lamar at the BET Awards this year, we'll have to unfortunately accept the fact that she won't be at this year's Teen Choice Awards. The best we can hope for is a win from both nominations, because she so obviously deserves them.
