Back in 2000, Britney Spears released the song "Oops! I Did It Again." After recently making a facepalm-worthy blunder, it's probably a good time to revisit those famous lyrics. On Monday, Spears accidentally dissed Taylor Swift on the radio. Before her whole squad gets up in arms, it sounds like just a funny misunderstanding. According to E! News, while on Kyle and Jackie O Show, Spears played a game of "Would You Rather?" She had to choose who she'd rather be stuck next to on a 24-hour flight: Swift or Katy Perry. Here's how the "Slave 4 U" singer responded:
"I don't know! I don't know, that's hard. They're both so cool, I don't know. I've briefly met Katy Perry at the Smurfs movie premiere. Maybe because I've met Katy Perry I would say Taylor Swift, because I've never met her before."
Soon after the comment, fans on Twitter were quick to fact-check her and point out that Spears met Swift not once, but twice. And guess what? There are the pictures to prove it. Yikes! I'm cringing on both of their behalf. One photo is from the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, which means they both were noteworthy pop stars at that point. The other snapshot looks like it was taken before Swift really made her big break.
Instead of being too hard on Spears, I'm going to give her a break. Let's just laugh this one off and chalk it up to a brain fart. Can you imagine how many people she's met in her lifetime — fans or otherwise? Sorry to say this, but maybe Swift didn't leave as big an impression as Perry. It's also possible that timing-wise, Spears had a lot on her plate and the meeting just slipped her mind. Either way, it's a comical mix-up. I also think the radio hosts were obviously trying to stir up some unnecessary drama, given the feud between Swift and Perry that never quite seems to go away. (Most recently thanks to a snarky remark from Swift's ex Calvin Harris.)
While the incident is amusing, it's not enough for Spears to lose sleep over. She's 34 years old now and a mom of two. She has better things to focus on than meaningless fights — including grilled cheese sandwiches and other delicious food she posts on Instagram all the time. Because, priorities.
