These Netflix Picks Will Make You Miss Being A Kid

by Kristie Rohwedder

While it can be a drag every now and again (lookin’ at you, monthly bills), being an adult is pretty legit. I don’t have a curfew to deal with, homework is a thing of the past, I could feasibly eat butterscotch pudding for dinner every night of the week if I so desired (I’ve yet to do it, but it’s cool knowing that it’s an option), and so on. However, I’d be a liar if I said I never wax nostalgic about childhood; being a youth was pretty legit, too. How legit? Uh, legit enough to inspire me to cobble together a list of TV shows and movies that are currently on Netflix that make me miss being a kid. That's how legit.

If you a) have a Netflix account, b) enjoy watching television shows and movies, c) appreciate nostalgia, and d) used to be a child, then this list is for you. I mean, I guess this list is for everybody and anybody who wants to read it, but it’s especially geared toward people who have a Netflix subscription, like TV shows and movies, are fans of nostalgia, and were a kid once upon a time.

Ready to get all sorts of wistful? Here we go.

1. The Wonder Years

Perfect for when… you want to feel like you've just read all of the messages your classmates wrote in your yearbooks (i.e., you want to feel so many mushy feelings, ya mushball).

2. Pee-Wee’s Playhouse

Perfect for when… you wish the light blue armchair you bought at Ikea could talk.

3. Wet Hot American Summer

Perfect for when… you reeeeeally miss going to summer camp.

4. Goosebumps

Perfect for when… you want to get misty-eyed about the days you used to spend all of your babysitting earnings on R.L. Stine’s book series.

5. Stranger Things

Perfect for when… you miss playing incredibly involved board games with your buddies.

6. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

Perfect for when… you miss riding bikes with your buddies.

7. The Big Green

Perfect for when… you can't remember the last time your knees were stained with grass.

8. Cats & Dogs

Perfect for when… you're feeling sentimental about the cats vs. dogs debate that ruled recess for a whole week in third grade.

9. Bratz: The Movie

Perfect for when… you want to imagine what your toys would’ve been like if they were real people.

10. The Little Rascals

Perfect for when... you realize you still remember the secret password to the secret club you and the other kids on your block founded the summer before fifth grade.

11. Pokémon: Indigo League

Perfect for when… you need to take a break from playing Pokémon Go, but you don’t want to take a break from Pokémon altogether.

12. Animaniacs

Perfect for when… you miss your daily after school ritual of eating Goldfish crackers and watching cartoons until your mom tells you to go do your homework.

Sappy, er, happy Netflixing.
