Her Final Film Has A Release Date

by Mallory Schlossberg

Rest in peace, you talented, beautiful woman. Four years after her too-soon, tragic death, Brittany Murphy's final film will be released. Her final role should surely haunt us. The film, Something Wicked , is set to be released on April 4 at The Regal Theater in Eugene, Oregon, which is where the movie was originally filmed, and it will be more widely released around the nation shortly after. The producers describe the movie as a "hauntingly seductive thriller about obsession and young love gone wrong." Anything gone wrong seems almost too uncomfortably poignant, as Murphy, too, faced a tragic kind of ending (albeit, with a different story). The film had actually wrapped months before she passed away, but the release had been stalled due to her death.

Back in 2012, producer and screenwriter Joe Calleran told USA Today that, "Brittany pulled off one of the spookiest scenes in the movie [...] There's an important scene where her character is unraveling and she spent a long time getting ready and focused and went for it. Personally, I think it's one of the best scenes of her career."

The movie, which is directed by Darin Scott, is about a young married couple whose relationship is threatened by a manipulative mutual acquaintance. It co-stars Shantel VanSanten, John Robinson, James Patrick Stuart, and Julian Morris.

While the cause of her death has sparked some debate — her father has claimed poisoning, her mother has claimed toxic mold was in her home, and original reports stated she passed away from pneumonia and intoxication — it was unanimously agreed that it was a tragic ending, indeed, and this film is a reminder that Hollywood indeed misses the Clueless and 8 Mile star.

Her spirit will also live in in poetry, as actress Amber Tamblyn is currently working on a poetry book about deceased actress, such as Marilyn Monroe and Murphy.
