Lorelai & Luke's Relationship May Be Rocky On 'GG'

by Michelle Lulic

Where Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino leads, fans will follow. However, in Netflix's upcoming four-part series, Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, she could be leading fans down a path darker than expected. Lorelai Gilmore may not get the happily-ever-after everyone has been expecting. In the latest trailer for the Gilmore Girls revival, Lorelai is seen discussing her relationship with Luke with an unknown character (played by actor Kerry Butler). But instead of spouting words of positivity, the ring-less Lorelai isn't very convincing when she states, "We're happy. Luke and I are ... happy." In spite of that statement, I'm wondering: Are Luke and Lorelai in couple's therapy? Please excuse me while I go grab a tissue.

*Sniffles* OK, I'm good. However, with a Gilmore Girls wedding on its way, the likelihood of one of the Gilmores getting married seems to be slowly dwindling. According to the latest trailer, all three women appear to be going through tough times. Rory is jobless and trying to find herself again; Emily is mourning the loss of her late-husband, Richard Gilmore; and Lorelai admits, "I thought I knew exactly what I wanted and where I was going but, lately, I don't know. Things seem hazier." Meanwhile, Luke appears to be absent from one of Taylor's infamous town meetings at the 1:38 minute mark.

So are Luke and Lorelai on a break? And, most importantly, who is the woman Lorelai is speaking to at the 1:10 mark? According to a breakdown of the GG trailer on TVLine , Butler's character is described as "a shrink" that Lorelai is seeing. This character begs the question of whether or not Luke is going for therapy sessions as well — or if Lorelai's therapy sessions could be something the she's sneaking behind his back. After what may have been 10 years of dating, there has to be a reason why Luke and Lorelai have yet to tie the knot. But I'm not quite sure that I'm ready to handle what that reason may be.

On the flip side of things, Luke's presence in Lorelai's house shows continued promise for fans shipping Stars Hollow's biggest love birds. With a hilarious takeover of Lorelai's kitchen, it seems as if Lorelai's therapeutic visits aren't necessarily doom-worthy. Perhaps Lorelai's visits are due to any of the following possibilities: news of an unexpected pregnancy, a career change she has yet to discuss with Luke, or the pressures of marriage from her mother. Either way, a bombshell is sure to dropped regarding Luke and Lorelai's relationship.

You better make sure you're stocked up on coffee for whatever goes down. Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life premieres on Netflix Friday, Nov. 25.
