Joan Rivers Isn't Apologizing to K. Stew

by Kaitlin Reilly

Yet another celebrity is pissed about something Joan Rivers' said... or, rather, wrote. According to TMZ, Kristen Stewart is mad that Rivers called her out in her new book, Diary of a Mad Diva. Apparently, Rivers was less than kind about Stewart's affair with married director Rupert Sanders in her new book, writing that Stewart "got a whole career by being able to juggle a director's balls." Umm, ouch. In Rivers' interview with TMZ, she claims that Stewart's lawyer called her lawyer over the nasty comments, telling Rivers to take out the offending statement. The comedienne told the lawyer to be glad Stewart wasn't a Kardashian — things could have gotten a whole lot nastier. That's about as close to an apology as one will get from Rivers, and it's kind of surprising that Stewart would ever think differently.

Stewart has a right to be annoyed by Rivers' comments — after all, no one wants to constantly be reminded of their biggest mistake. Stewart made a public apology after her affair became public knowledge and genuinely seemed to regret hurting those involved. At the same time, Rivers is a comedian and a celebrity commenter — making fun of people is how she's made a career. Though Rivers may be a celebrity in her own right, she's really no different from any celebrity blogger or tabloid reporter — like it or not, she's going to write what she's going to write.

No one would argue that Rivers is a nice person (this is the woman who called North West ugly and Lena Dunham fat) but her digs aren't really about the celebrities — they're about getting laughs. Rivers knows that it's the easiest way to get her own name out there. Personally, I think that Rivers could use a dose of kindness in her comedy, but the odds of that actually happening are pretty slim.

Sorry, K. Stew, but it looks like the only way to combat Rivers' celebrity attacks are by growing a thicker skin and ignoring them... even if you shouldn't have to.
