This is the Most Bizarre Slap Fight Ever

by Kadeen Griffiths

In the most bizarre viral video you'll see all day, Haley Joel Osment joins a host of other strangers and actors in a Max Landis short film called The Slap. In the four minute video, two perfect strangers are introduced to one another and then instructed to slap one another in the face moments later. However, not all of them are perfect strangers to each other. Some, like Liz Gillies and Matt Bennett from Nickelodeon's Victorious, are old friends. This video places somewhere above the excited World Cup dog and somewhere below the Teddy Roosevelt Guy on the list of things you just have to see today.

According to Landis, violence isn't the point of the video, though some of the slaps are so loud that you can hear them and more than one person gets slapped so hard their head turns with it. "The theory I had was that violence minus aggression is intimacy," he explains in a companion video. "It's the idea of trusting someone to hit you and it being a social interaction. A slap, mitigated by permission, is a hug."

Strange as the theory might be, the slap pairings do seem to be a lot closer after the interaction. Between squealing out apologies to kissing it all better, the slaps seem to bring these people together more than it tears them apart. By the end of the video, they're slapping each other in places other than the face and laughing as they experiment with different kinds and styles of slaps.

Quite honestly, attempts at profundity aside, this video will certainly be the funniest thing that you see all day. Next time you see your friends, don't give them a hug. Ask if they want to join you in a slap fight. It might not bring you together like it did with all of these strangers, but it'll definitely give you something to talk about for the rest of the week.
