"Bang Bang" Got Turned Into an '80s Song

by Alex Kritselis

Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj's new hit single, "Bang Bang," just got a killer remix from DJ Ober that transforms the up-tempo pop track into an icy-cool electronic number. Essentially, it's the '80s dance remix of "Bang Bang" that you didn't know you needed but definitely won't be able to live without once you hear it. Trust me on this one — it's awesome.

Co-written and and co-produced by pop masterminds Max Martin and Savan Kotecha, the original version of "Bang Bang" is characterized by rapid hand claps and hard-hitting brass stabs. DJ Ober's new remix, however, strips away the track's live instrumentation and replaces it with chilly retro synths and a throbbing electronic bass line. Minaj's verse sounds especially incredible over the song's new instrumental.

"Bang Bang" didn't arrive until late in the season, but it's definitely one of the coolest songs of Summer 2014. What's not to love about hearing three insanely talented women together on the same track? On Sunday, the "Bang Bang" music video premiered online, and later in the evening, Jessie, Grande, and Minaj performed the song live for the first time at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards (complete with a wardrobe malfunction). The song currently sits at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, down from it's number six debut a few weeks ago, but with awesome remixes like this one, there's no doubt in my mind that it's going to rebound.
