Some big changes are coming to The Real Housewives of New York for Season 7, and let me just say, it is most definitely not turtle time right now. According to a source who spoke with Us Weekly, Ramona Singer has be demoted on RHONY to a recurring role aka a Friend of the Housewives aka most definitely not where Ramona Singer should be.
Ramona has been on RHONY since the very first season and that's a good thing. Whenever new cast members are brought in to revive the show it doesn't pay off. Do you remember the craziness that was Alex McCord, Jill Zarin, and Bethenny Frankel? Do Carole Radziwill, Heather Thomson, and Kristen Taekman compare? Hell to the no. (For those of you wondering, yes, I considered Kelly Bensimon's position in all of this and decided that she is a glorious anomaly.) And now, Ramona is being demoted right after Aviva "I Threw My Leg That One Time" Drescher was fired? That makes no sense. This show needs Ramona and her nutty best friendship with Sonja Morgan. It's what keeps this show from featuring a bunch of ladies who are, well, normal. And normal plus Real Housewives equals boring.
Plus, Ramona is not someone who will take well to a recurring role. She loves the spotlight. LOVES IT. Why do you think she brings her own pinot grigio to every party she attends and does things like order an air conditioner to another woman's house while she's a guest? Attention!
The source who spoke with Us Weekly explained Ramona's new role saying, "Bravo is casting the show around Heather Thomson and Kristen Taekman and Carole Radziwill. [When] Ramona carried the show, that is why ratings plummeted, they think." Nonsense! The ratings plummeted because of all of those women. The biggest drama of Season 6 was about whether or not Carole and Aviva's books were ghost written. Books, people! Real Housewives drama cannot be based solely on books! But it can be based on a lady who will hang out with anyone — even if she knows they don't like her — and who will always show up ready to gossip, drink (only pinot grigio that bears her own name), and invite people to awkward lunch dates to work out their issues. There is no one better at that very specific combination of things than Ramona Singer, and to have her not do the job she is best at is a total waste.
You tell 'em, girl!
