That Aaliyah Biopic Has a Trailer

So, that Aaliyah biopic Lifetime is trying to put together despite no one actually wanting them to and their first lead star dropping out because she didn't like going against Aaliyah's family's wishes? Turns out, it's still going forward! After releasing a teaser for the television movie last week, Lifetime has released a full trailer for their Aaliyah biopic on their Facebook, which, despite not being much longer than the teaser, gives us a better look at Alexandra Shipp in the lead role as the late singer.

Also, it gives us a look at how much this biopic should not be happening.

It's not even the quality of the project (though, if it's anything like that Brittany Murphy biopic they tried, FALL BACK, LIFETIME), it's the simple fact that they couldn't even use an Aaliyah track in the trailer for the whole thing. Instead, an Iggy Azalea track, "Goddess," can be heard in the background of the 30-second trailer.

No offense to Iggy Azalea — and Aaliyah was definitely a goddess to bow down to — but this is an Aaliyah film. It's set in the '90s, it's supposed to chronicle Aaliyah's life, and embody everything the late singer was before her untimely death in 2002.

I understand that since Aaliyah's family objected to this biopic, they can't use Aaliyah's catalog of songs — but shouldn't that be enough indication to drop the project all together?

Check out the trailer for yourself below.
