DIY Angelina Jolie's Wedding Dress for Halloween
Halloween is sneaking up on us, and while there are some pretty amazing costume ideas out there, maybe you still haven't found one that feels right. Enter: Angelina Jolie and her wedding dress. I know, it's a little out there when you first think about it, but give it a second... what could be better than being Mrs. Pitt, getting to wear a wedding dress and being totally original? Very few things, I'll tell you that. Making an Angelina Jolie wedding dress costume is the way to go this Halloween, and it's prettier than sticking two horns on your head calling yourself Maleficent, so let's get started.
Jolie and Brad Pitt may have said a billion times that they weren't going to get married, but we all knew it would happen eventually, right? I mean, as skeptical as I was when these two first got together, to see them last so long in an industry that is famous for its breakups is actually pretty cool.
And also, how freaking amazing was her wedding dress? A Versace creation with an empire waist, long train, and detailed drawings dreamt up by her six children, Angelina Jolie's gown is bound to go down as one of the most memorable bridal looks in A-list history.
Maybe it's time to pack away the "Team Aniston" T-shirts this Halloween and show Jolie some love. Here's how to DIY her wedding dress yourself.
Step 1: Find Your Dress
You can be pretty flexible when it comes to finding a (fake) wedding dress. In fact, it doesn't even have to be bridal, just something long and white (ideally with thinner straps). Try checking out your local thrift shops, or look for a long, white maxi dress at a more affordable store (this white maxi from Forever 21 is a pretty good option). Remember, you're going to be drawing on top of this, so you don't need to shell out too much cash.
Step 2: Find Your Veil
Your costume won't be complete without a long, sheer veil. If you're lucky, you'll be able to find one of these while visiting Goodwill. If you're not so lucky at the thrift store, not to worry. Just purchase some white tulle from a fabric store, and quickly make your own. Tulle is super cheap, so if you have to go the DIY route, it's no big deal.
Step 3: Start Coloring
Put on your favorite jams, grab your permanent markers, and get to coloring! The more colors the better. If you take a close look at Angie's dress, you can see lots of animals, flowers, and even a small plane, so be creative with your illustrations. Bonus tip: Jolie has most of the drawings on the back of her dress and lower half of the veil. For this reason, steer clear of any non-permanent markers, as you don't want to be leaving marks everywhere you sit on Halloween.
Step 4: Make Your Tats
Angelina Jolie wouldn't be Angelina Jolie without her famous ink. Find yourself a semi-permanent skin marker (they make them for sports games), and a friend who has decent handwriting. Then have a look at this list of Jolie's tattoos.
Step 5: Add the Final Details
Top off your look with Jolie's classic beauty must-haves: Long, dark hair, winged eyeliner, heavy black mascara, and a golden lid shadow. Try a darker lip color to make your mouth pop, and stick with a classic Angie pout for all your photos. Make your cheekbones stand out by applying some highlighter and bronzer, and voila, you're now Mrs. Pitt.
