These New Julep Lip Crayons Are Everything

by Amy Sciarretto

Julep, largely known as a nail care company, is further expanding its makeup and color offerings. The brand, also known for its Plie Wand, which allows for precision when painting your nails, is getting in on the lip crayon craze and joining the crayon brigade with its Plush Pout Lip Crayons. Trust me, these lip chubbies are everything.

Lip crayons have been having a moment. An extended moment, actually, with Clinique's Chubby Sticks and even Flower Beauty's Lip Suede Velvet Lip Chubby being some of my personal faves. However, what makes Julep's Plus Pout sticks so utterly amaze? Oh, let me count the ways.

I am crushing hard on Almond Nude Crème, a pinky, rosy shade that works well with my fair skin tone, rather than washing me out like some nudes can. If you covet for that super exaggerated, pouty, precise, and mostly matte lip look that Kylie Jenner has been pumping all over her IG this year, this little chubby will take you to that promised land. Seriously.

Here are the stats: First off, it smells delish. Think almond with a hint of caramel and vanilla. Mmm. Try not to lick your lips too much when you wear it, though, since that can lead to dry, chafed lips. I know it smells yummy, but lip pencils are friends, not food.

In addition to providing a pop of matte, mod color, the Plush Pout crayons are mega moisturizing, too, thanks to the "treatment core" at the center of the bullet. Basically, you get color and moisture without tons of shine.

The formula is more balm-like and not drying, as some matte crayons can be. It basically melted onto my lips.

If you like her shade and the soft finish, then Plush Pout provides both.

The twist-up pencil form allows for a better grip and a more defined lip look, as well as control in terms of how much product is used. I trace my lip lines first, and the fill in the center. It makes my not-naturally-pouty lips look instantly fuller. Paired with some cat eye liner, it makes for a perfectly mod '60s look.

It's also designed for all you get-up-and-go types, too. One quick swipe gets the benefits of color and softness, without even looking in a mirror. I love a lip product that serves multiple masters.

While the product does prettify the lips, there are no parabens or sulfates aka chemicals and bad stuff in the recipe. Plus, the brand donates its time, its products, and a portion of its proceeds to women-supporting organizations, which is majorly rad. So you can look and feel good when rocking Julep's wares — and that's aces.
