Is 'Agents' Skye's Real Name Already in the MCU?

by Rachel Paige

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. only has two more episodes to go before its planned winter hiatus and then we won't see it again until Agent Carter has finished (not that I'm complaining about that). However, with only two episodes left, the show has a lot of loose threads to tie up if it wants to leave us at least a little bit satisfied for the time being. While we might not get all the answers we need, one big question slowly seems to be coming to a head: what is Skye's real name? Her father, The Doctor, angrily yelled at Coulson over the fact that they call her "Skye" when that's not her real name. But, it's not like the two of them then sit down over beers to discuss her heritage and moniker. Her real name — and identity — are some of the many remaining mysteries on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

As we know, Skye was in an orphanage as a child, and was given the name "Mary Sue Poots." Looking at the Skye we know and love today, she looks nothing like a Mary Sue Poots, and changed her name, rightly so. And just like all of us — the audience — she doesn't know her real name, either. I don't even think she realizes that she has a real name other than what was given to her as a child. But Doctor Dad seems pretty torn up about the fact that everyone is calling her Skye, so clearly her name is kind of important.

So, what could her real name be? With all the heavy talk of Inhumans coming to S.H.I.E.L.D. , it's possible that Skye's name is already hidden in the MCU somewhere — or maybe she's already a character and we just don't know it yet. Or, she's a hybrid of the two, with a familiar name but a new backstory. Her name's big reveal will probably elicit a gasp from us, the loyal audience, so just what might her name be?

It could be an Inhuman name. Like, Crystal. Or Medusa — but please don't let it be Medusa. Her name could also be Luna, and considering that we're already calling her Skye, Luna wouldn't be too far off. Also, Luna has a connection to Quicksilver, who just happens to make an appearance in this summer's newest Avengers movie.

Maybe she's got an X-Men mutant name. There's all sorts of strange legality issues with talking about the X-Men and mutants when it comes to what Disney owns of the Marvel universe. So maybe, like what they're doing with Quicksilver, she could have an already established mutant name, but is never called a mutant ever ever. Maybe she's Shiro/Sunfire. Or Kitty Pryde! Or Alison/Dazzler!! Stranger things have happened on the show.

Or, Skye has a regular, non-comic book name, like Katherine. This would give the show the ability to go wherever they want with Skye, her backstory, her possible alien heritage, and so on.

But maybe her name really is Mary Sue Poots, and evil Doctor Dad is mad that no one is calling her that. Maybe Mary Sue Poots is a family name? We'd at least have to start calling her MSP for short.
