Benedict Lets His Inner Comedian Out

Gather 'round, because it's time for your daily news about this beloved Sherlock actor. It just wouldn't be a typical day without Sherlock Holmes, right? In a chat with the Los Angeles Times and EPIX's five-part Hollywood Sessions, Benedict Cumberbatch was asked what advice he'd give his younger self, and, of course, he gave a hilarious and top-notch answer. I wouldn't expect anything less. He said with that gorgeous accent of his,

I would get Matthew McConaughey to do it for me. He's much better at advising himself than I would ever be.

For those who don't remember, McConaughey gave quite the acceptance speech at the Oscars this year, in which he talked to his future self. Apparently, his hero is himself in 10 years. No matter what year it is, his "hero is always 10 years away." My explanation doesn't do the interesting and somewhat confusing speech justice, so I recommend watching it for yourself. With that said, McConaughey's speech is probably why Cumberbatch wants the actor to advise his younger self, because he's already so used to it. So what advice would McConaughey give a young Cumberbatch? I'm waiting, Matthew! Hopefully, the Interstellar actor will hear about this and offer up some advice. That'd be fantastic.

Funnily enough, this isn't the first time Cumberbatch has chatted about McConaughey. In a 2014 interview with Variety, he opened up about winning an Emmy for Sherlock. Sadly, Cumberbatch wasn't there to accept his award, but he did say this,

I literally won in my sleep. [Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson] announced my name and just wandered off. Probably smelted the statue into a bong by now.

Maybe the two should do a movie together? Alright, alright, alright, I'd totally watch that.

Cumberbatch wasn't the only actor asked the question. He was interviewed alongside some of the top actors of the year, including Steve Carell, Eddie Redmayne, Michael Keaton, and Robert Downey Jr.

Like Cumberbatch, Downey Jr. gave a hilarious response by saying he wouldn't give any advice, but would just say, "Nailed it." As for Carell he would tell his younger self, "Don't be so afraid of girls." Keaton looked to Reese Witherspoon's movie Wild explaining he would do everything all over again. As for Redmayne, the clip does not provide his answer, but you get to watch him laugh adorably.
