12 Books You Would Find in Mindy Lahiri's Library

by Chrissa Hardy

Dr. Mindy Lahiri is a serious baller. She's got jaw-dropping style, BFF-level relatability, a brilliant mind with a degree to practice medicine, and her sense of humor is on point. She's also got a dream apartment in New York City (despite the knives and junk food often found under her pillows), and her roster of bedfellows is a compilation of extreme hotness.

We've gotten to know her so well because we love her. She's amazing. She represents the best parts of us — OK, and the worst parts, but angled in flattering and charming ways. Mindy Lahiri is all of us. And during this winter break, we've missed her like whoa, so thank goodness she comes back to us Tuesday with a new episode of The Mindy Project!

Since getting to know her, I've had fun imagining aspects of her life that have not been yet been directly addressed. Like, what does her weekly grocery list look like? Is it a mix of booze, steak, and ingredients for the latest trendy cleanse? What's her favorite Christmas movie? I feel like it would be Elf .

Most importantly, what kinds of books would we find in her personal library? Would it be a stack of best selling celebrity memoirs and the Twilight series? Based on how many times I've seen each episode (at least four), I think I've got this nailed down pretty well. Here's what Mindy would read:

Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding

Well, let's begin with the obvious, because we know that this book has Mindy's whole heart. Especially after Danny read it to her in the hospital, wearing those sexy red granny frames.

The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins

People don't always accept her Hunger Games checks, but she gets such good Mockingjay points, you guys!

Bossypants by Tina Fey

Tina is listed as the main recipient on Mindy Lahiri's will, so I'm assuming she loves Tina's hilarious book.

Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg

She has the book, but she hasn't yet read it.

It's All Good by Gwyneth Paltrow and Julia Turshen

Ah, that time Gwyneth told us a happy life included no coffee, no alcohol, no dairy, no eggs, no sugar, no shellfish, no wheat, no meat, no soy, and nothing processed. (So... nothing?) Mindy bought it to kickstart her New Year's resolution to eat healthier, but abandoned this meal plan after seven hours because she realized it's completely insane and next to impossible to maintain.

Heartburn by Nora Ephron

OF COURSE Mindy would gobble up any content in any form created by the queen of rom-coms, Nora Ephron. #Duh

The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon

Mindy has a healthy sexual appetite, and she's not ashamed of it one bit. But the beauty of the Outander series is that it's not a mindless romance tale. It's smart, packed with history lessons, and also very, very sexy.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Mindy has a dark side, and living vicariously through the mysterious disappearance of Amy Dunne gives her an outlet for it. She also appreciates a creative imagination, which Gillian Flynn most certainly has.

The Shopaholic Series by Sophie Kinsella

There's no wardrobe on TV quite as vast and vibrant as Mindy Lahiri, and with the ridiculous amount of cash she drops on emojis, something tells me she's got a bit of a shopping problem and would really relate to the main character's plight.

As You Wish by Cary Elwes and Joe Layden

Since The Princess Bride is one of her favorite movies, there's no way she'd see this cover and not immediately buy it. Although I'm sure she probably wishes it was written by Mandy Patinkin, who played Inigo Montoya in the movie, the character she found way hotter than the accommodating prince.

Fangirl: A Novel by Rainbow Rowell

Mindy is a proud fangirl of many celebs, so the story of Cath and her obsession with Simon Snow would totally speak to Dr. Lahiri.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling

Something tells me Mindy and Mindy would have a lot in common.
