Delena's Big Kiss Won't Solve All Their Problems

Like a teenage schoolgirl, I've found myself anxiously awaiting the day Damon and Elena finally kiss on The Vampire Diaries . And not just in a flashback scenario (though I'll take one of those any day of the week). No, what I'm talking about is in reference to real time. Ever since Elena lost all of her good Damon memories, I've worried that this duo would never find their way back to each other. But now that a Delena kiss is actually happening — as proven in Thursday's Vampire Diaries "Prayer for the Dying" promo — is it safe to say that this power couple is ready to walk off into the sunset together? I'm afraid it isn't going to be that simple — and not just because Elena no longer has a daylight ring and should be steering clear of sunsets in general.

Being a dedicated TVD fan, I'm always cautious when things start going too well for a beloved 'shipping pair, and if you ask me, Delena's reconciliation is all happening just a little too smoothly. Don't get me wrong, I've thoroughly enjoyed watching Damon take his lady love down memory lane to highlight all the great times they've shared together. (That rain kiss was everything I wanted and more!) However, aside from that little Kai kidnapping hiccup, Elena has warmed to the idea of her and Damon a lot more easily than I thought she would, which makes me think an even bigger obstacle than just lost memories is looming on the horizon.

So while we all should certainly relish in this upcoming smooch, I suggest that we also start preparing ourselves for the inevitable backlash that could ensue. This is the calm before the storm, my friends. And it's only a matter of time until our 'shipping hearts will have to take cover.

Damon Ends Up Killing Someone… Again

As much as Damon has somewhat reformed from his "bad boy" ways, there's always a chance that particular personality trait could resurface at any time, and with that, Elena's reservations about their relationship. Thursday's episode synopsis "Prayer for the Dying" states that: "With the merge set to take place, Damon's risky plan quickly sends things spiraling out of control, forcing one of the twins to take matters into their own hands." We know Damon has a tendency to be selfish and will sometimes throw others under the bus if it means saving the people he cares about most. What if this "risky plan" of his results in someone's death? Elena could end up resenting him and thus completely alter the course of their budding romance… again.

Elena Makes a Big Life Decision

After the TVD midseason finale, Plec took to Twitter and started doling out some very intriguing teasers for what to expect when the series returned. One remark that I still can't get out of my head was this:

Now the possibilities are really kind of endless as to what this could mean, however, it gives me the sense that it could end up pulling her away from Damon… potentially for good.

Perhaps she gets offered a job somewhere far away or makes the decision to banish herself to an alternate plane if it means somehow saving someone she loves. (That girl is all about the grand gestures.) The point is any life-changing decision usually guarantees that almost every aspect of your life will become disrupted. So if she's currently spending all of her time with Damon, that really doesn't bode well for their future together.

Bamon Could Still Happen

I know I've discussed this in length before, so I won't completely rehash it for you. But Plec seemed to give out some pretty strong vibes that a Damon and Bonnie hook-up was in the cards for this season. And now that we know Bonnie is definitely coming back to Mystic Falls (and soon), it's only a matter of time until this potential storyline could start wrecking havoc on the happy couple. Prepare your meltdowns accordingly.
