Is Mindy Kaling Single?
While her character on The Mindy Project has been tied down for a while now, and is (dubiously) engaged and pregnant, Mindy Kaling's own relationship status is a fascinating and intriguing subject to her many fans — leading many to wonder, is Mindy Kaling single?
Considering Kaling is a self-proclaimed romantic and has been pretty candid about her past relationships, I think a lot of her fans are pretty invested in seeing her in a relationship. Obviously, the main thing they want to know is if she's dating BJ Novak, her real-life Officeco-star and former boyfriend with whom her romantic relationship with previously ended "years ago" — and "not by choice." Unfortunately, though, this does not seem to be the case (for now): Kaling recently talked to Ellen, where she revealed that she is certainly single. She also revealed that the difference between herself and her character makes the dating world difficult for her — specifically, she isn't as wild as Mindy Lahiri in real life, which can be disappointing for some men. Additionally, she doesn't do one night stands, and for a very good reason:
"People get a little disappointed ... I could never have a one-night stand because I have my medications that I have to take at night. I have to be at my house and, like, do my flossing."
Way to go, Mindy, for standing up for oral hygiene. Other people's houses are the worst. That said, I'm sure she'll find her Danny soon — if that's what she wants.
It's possible that we'll also find out more about the current state of her love life in her upcoming book, which is called Why Not Me? This seems likely, as she revealed a lot about dating and her opinions on romance in her excellent first book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, released in 2011. In it, she discussed bad boyfriends, Jewish guys, and a guy who would text her to let her know she's the first thing he thinks about when he wakes up and the last before he goes to bed. What happened to this guy is something I'd love her new book to reveal — as well as the impact of her fame on her dating life.
That said, though, as Kaling recently told Good Housekeeping , she doesn't need anyone to take care of her. "I don’t need marriage," she said. "I don’t need anyone to take care of all my needs and desires. I can take care of them myself now."
