Relationships are never easy, but on a show like Nashville, finding your happily ever after can sometimes seem downright impossible — especially when it comes to the never-ending drama of series newcomer Sadie Stone. Not only has she suffered at the hands of an abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Pete (who may or may not be dead thanks to their little gun struggle), but now this whole ordeal has potentially thrown a huge wrench in Sadie's romantic future with Luke as well. (If you recall, just moments after the gun went off, Luke appeared at the scene of the crime.) And while none of this is Sadie's fault — she was merely trying to defend herself — it doesn't exactly set up the most romantic scenario for either of these country crooners.
However, that certainly doesn't mean we should give up on the idea. (Personally, I much prefer seeing Luke with Sadie than I ever did seeing him with Rayna.) I'm merely pointing out that the road to any romantic future between these two will not be an easy one. Then again, when is it ever on this show?)But that's no reason to lose hope. In fact, Entertainment Weekly recently dished on this new Nashville duo, suggesting that the fallout from Pete's shooting will produce both positive and negative side effects.
"The incident gives Luke a chance to be there for Sadie, but the emotional toll it takes on Sadie will definitely put a damper on things. I will say that their obstacle has to do with space, but I won’t say whether it’s because they’re separated by jail bars."
Clearly, there's going to be a bit of rocky terrain to navigate regardless of whether or not Sadie's ex is, in fact, still alive. And the mere suggestion of jail bars sounds less than comforting. But if there's one thing we know about Luke, it's that he has no qualms with facing a challenge head on. I mean, the guy tried to go up against the epic love of Rayna and Deacon. It may have proved to be a fruitless effort (those two are endgame, after all), but you have to admire his initiative.
Plus, Luke and Sadie have way more chemistry together than Ruke ever did. (And I'm liking him a lot more these days because of it.) Granted, that's just one girl's opinion, I suppose, but if their combined vocals are any indication, I'd say we may just have another unsinkable 'ship on our hands.
I guess what I'm really trying to say here is that just because they have a few big obstacles in their future, doesn't necessarily make them a lost cause. If Rayna and Deacon can survive alcoholism and Juliette and Avery can survive cheating, then surely Sadie and Luke can muddle their way through a measly murder/attempted murder charge. So if I were you, I wouldn't give up on these two crazy kids just yet.
