Support For Jenner On Social Media Is Overwhelming

by Jessica Blankenship

With Bruce Jenner's announcement on 20/20 with Diane Sawyer that he is “for all intents and purposes…a woman," social media came alive with an earth-shaking energy, all focused on pouring out as much support as possible onto the Olympic gold medalist as he demonstrated tremendous courage and candor, recounting his lifelong struggle to reconcile his gender identity, and the deeply personal process of coming out to his loved ones.

Leading up to and since Jenner's captivating interview, members of the expansive Kardashian/Jenner family have taken to social media to express their support for their beloved Bruce; Everyone from Kendall and Kylie to Khloe, his "other children" (LOL, sorry, Brandon, Brody, and...you other ones) to Jenner's mom, and even Jenner's ex-wife of 25 years, Kris, made it clear that they stand behind Jenner, a person who has always stood behind them.

Jenner's famous family were not, however, even close to being the only people who wanted to contribute positive words of encouragement to the athlete and motivational speaker on this momentous night. Fans and supporters took to social media in a fury of support that is—for lack of a less trite and more fitting word—breathtaking. If there was any negativity or mocking to be found online in the moments during and after Jenner's interview, there would've been no way for it to be heard over the overwhelming roar of loving sentiments and celebration for this act of empowerment and bravery.

What is perhaps more remarkable about the outpouring of support, more than any one tweet itself, is the sheer volume; There is literally not enough space in this post to share the tremendous quantity of message of love, gratitude, and solidarity that fans, supporters, celebrities, and members of the LGBT community felt compelled to offer to Jenner as he bravely and generously offered up his story for our greater collective understanding of an often tragically misunderstood issue.

Even still, as regrettably un-encompassing of ever-growing mountain of support that's building on Twitter right now, here are a few of our favorite messages for Jenner:

Editor’s Note: Per Jenner’s stated preference, Bustle will continue referring to Jenner using he/his pronouns for the time being. We will follow his lead and make any changes to this policy as needed in the future.
