Anne Hathaway Skirts One Theme, Honors Another

by Lindsay Mannering

Listen. Say what you will about Annie Haths, but the girl can do a theme better than anyone. Not only that, but she can subvert the theme of the theme party, and come in something that's even more theme-appropriate, for a theme you'd forgotten about. Don't follow? Take Anne Hathaway's 2015 Met Gala dress. The theme of the Gala is "China: Through The Looking Glass," but Hath's was all "nuh-uh" and decided to salute a theme too often ignored when it follows in line with the Met Gala. Since it's May 4, Hathaway honored "May the Fourth be with you," a Star Wars shout out, in her gold, Ralph Lauren, short-sleeved, hooded dress. Yuppers.

Sarah Jessica Parker took the "Through the Looking Glass" theme and ran with it, Diane Kruger pretty much ignored it and rocked sequin pants, and Emma Roberts totally missed the mark with her hair-sticks, but Hathaway? She marches to the beat of her own drum. She probably took one look around at the guests dressed in attire honoring Chinese fashion, and wondered what wretched hive of scum and villainy decided to forgo May the Fourth. This isn't Anna Wintour's party! This is a party for those from a galaxy far, far away. Hathaway gets that.
