Okay, 'Hobbit,' We're Getting Impatient

by Kate Ward

A new, three-minute-long trailer for Dec. 13's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug gives movie fans two very good pieces of news: 1) Based on the action-packed teaser, it seems The Hobbit sequel won't, like the first, be subtitled, The Hobbit: Bilbo Cleans Up After a Dinner Party, and 2) The Desolation of Smaug will offer us plenty of eye candy besides The Hobbit's slightly confusing hot dwarves. Because, as the trailer showcases, we'll get plenty of Orlando Bloom's Legolas in the sequel, and will see the introduction of Luke Evans' Bard the Bowman. Just look at the picture above: Bow to Bowman's hotness, Hobbit fans! After all, the character is about as close to Aragorn as you're gonna get in this Lord of the Rings prequel franchise.

That said, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug's trailer is disappointing for one big, fire-breathing reason: The spot, once again, keeps Benedict Cumberbatch's title character close to its (treasure) chest, favoring views of Smaug's eye and gold fortune over the entirety of the dragon. It's bad enough that we have to wait until Jan. 19 to see Martin Freeman and Cumberbatch reunite on Sherlock — you're going to make us wait until Dec. 13 to see them together in The Hobbit too, Warner Brothers? Even Legolas can't believe there's still a month to go.

Sigh. I suppose we'll make do with the attractive men. Watch the new Desolation of Smaug trailer below!
