7 Fan Covers Of 'Empire' Songs

by Marenah Dobin

Empire is my favorite new show on television by far — and many people agree with me. It has outrageous story lines, captivating characters, and plenty of twists and turns, but one of the best parts about Empire is its soundtrack. And the great thing about the soundtrack is that the cast members contribute to it and we get to see the songs performed on the show, even though the show is not a musical. It all plays out in a way that just works perfectly, and is not at all cheesy. Pretty much every episode of Season 1 got me addicted to a new song, and I'm not the only one. Plenty of fans have been excited about the songs on the show, and some fans have even recorded their own covers and posted them online.

So, are these covers worth watching and listening to? Not all of them, of course, but there are some pretty great ones out there. You may be itching with a restless need for new Empire content during the hiatus between the show's first and second seasons, but there are plenty of ways to fill in the gap. Check out the covers below for a unique take on your favorite songs from Empire and to help pass the time before Season 2 begins.

1. "What Is Love"

YouTube sensation Deli Rowe performed a beautiful cover of "What Is Love." She definitely slayed.

2. "What Is Love"

Flash forward to the :51 mark if you want to get right to the music. YouTube user Daysia Hall gives an impressive performance of the song written by Timbaland and performed by V. Bozeman on the show.

3. "Good Enough"

Brandon Sidney's cover of this song performed by Jussie Smollett on the show is pretty on point. He has a smooth voice and you can really feel his emotion. Plus, the production quality is superior to most other YouTube videos that I've seen.

4. "You're So Beautiful"

This is the one song that I really couldn't get out of my head after hearing it on the show. Terrence Howard, Bryshere Gray, and Jussie Smollett all contributed to versions of the track, so a cover of "You're So Beautiful" is a pretty tall order to fill. Tyler Mauga delivers an impressive and effortless performance of the song.

5. "What Is Love"

Tajah absolutely slays her cover of the song "What Is Love." The people at Fox need to get her on the show ASAP as a rising artist. She really killed it with her a cappella performance.

6. "You're So Beautiful"

Julien Knight really made the song his own with his French accent and really got into it with his animated hand gestures.

7. "You're So Beautiful"

Sarahbeth Sumbillo slows down "You're So Beautiful" and really makes it into a song of her own. She even plays guitar during her own performance.

I wonder if the people at Empire have seen these covers. They're all pretty impressive and it would be pretty cool if these fans got to be featured on the show somehow.
