'The Voice' Live Elimination Results

by Kristie Rohwedder

Hello! Welcome to the first set of live eliminations on The Voice ! "Come on, Kristie," you respond. "Are you trying to pull the wool over my eyes? I know these weren't the first eliminations of the season." But! These were the first live elimmies! We found out the contestants' fates with the contestants. It was a very emotional experience. Did Amanda Palmer's endorsement of Kat Robichaud impact the live eliminations? I'll never tell. Just kidding. I'll totally tell you. I'm not a toad.

Quick format rundown: the two contestants from each team with the highest amount of votes were automatically saved. Then, coaches Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera, and Adam Levine were each asked to save a third team member. These dream-crushing/dream-boosting decisions were made on the spot. On live television. I wasn't being dramatic when I said the episode was a very emotional experience.

TEAM BLAKE

His team performed "Free Ride" together. It was good. The guys were fine. I was all about Shelbie Z., though. Shelbie Z. was bonkers-great, per usual.

…but America didn't share my Shelbie Z. fanaticism. Voters saved Austin Jenckes and Cole Vosbury. Hm. I really, really like Cole, so I support that move. Austin is awesome, too, but I love me some Shelbie Z. Blake didn't muck this up, right? He didn't choose someone other than Shelbie Z., right?

WRONG. I WAS SO WRONG. HE SAVED RAY BOUDREAUX. RAY IS WONDERFUL AND I WISH HIM ALL OF THE LUCK. BUT I STAN FOR SHELBIE Z. I'm done caps-locking. My apologies. I just get so attached.

TEAM CEE LO

Team Mr. Green tackled "Give a Little Bit." This was fine, but there were some weird moments. I don't want to name names, but some of the contestants seemed a bit off. I'm going to chalk it up to nerves. However, I will say that I thought Amber Nicole and Tamara Chauniece were the standouts.

The voters saved Caroline Pennell (what's the opposite of a Shyamalan twist?) and Jonny Gray. Interesting. Very interesting. It looked like Amanda Palmer's call-to-arms didn't help. You tried, Palmer. The thought counts. I had no idea who Cee Lo would pick, but he saved Kat. HEY, Palmer! Your vibes worked, after all!

TEAM XTINA

I liked the group performance of "Love Somebody." Can we talk about Jacquie Lee, Stephanie Anne Johnson, and Matthew Schuler for forever? All three of them are such wonderful singers. Josh Logan and Olivia Henken were good… but was their harmonizing a little wonky? Or was that just me?

America voted for Jacquie Lee and Matthew. Because sometimes, special things happen. Would Xtina save Stephanie Anne Johnson? Sadly, no. Xtina saved Josh. I almost turned off my TV. That decision infuriated me (no offense, Josh. Much luck to you, you talented human). And you know what? I'm still furious. But I won't caps-lock. Caps-locking won't heal the pain.

TEAM ADAM

This performance of "Safe and Sound" was the strongest team performance of the night. All five contestants were in it to win it. Not a weak link to be found. Yay!

James Wolpert and Tessanne Chin were saved by voters. I nodded my head in approval. You did good, America. You did good. And how did Adam do? He saved Will Champlin. It's as if Adam could hear me yelling, "SAVE WILL! SAAAAVE WILL!" I'm going to take this as a sign that Adam Levine and I have a special connection.

Next week? More live rounds. How many nights? No clue. I'm rolling with the punches. Will Cher be back? I don't think so, but that doesn't stop me from clinging to a sliver of hope.
