Remember that time that, after they both shared all kinds of crazy yet obvious hints, Meek Mill proposed to Nicki Minaj? There's been an update on that, and a rather confusing one. According to the possible future Mr. Minaj himself, it's not happening, and it's not because they decided to call it off, either. In a new interview with Fader, the rapper makes it clear: Mill and Minaj aren't engaged, and never were. And if you're confused, don't worry — you're not the only one. Celebrity engagements have always been pretty murky territory, but this one seemed pretty clear cut. In the interview, Mill says:
[Our relationship is] definitely real, but it ain't really time to get married yet. We're still learning each other, feeling each other out.
And in normal circumstances, Mill shutting down engagement rumors would definitely be enough proof for me that they're not getting married after all, but what about all the clues both of them dropped that indicate they're definitely planning a wedding? Minaj has a giant diamond ring, and she's wearing it on her wedding finger. Who does that if they're not actually getting married — or, at the very least, they wanted everyone else to think they're getting married?
Look at this sucker. Does this say "I'm not engaged" to you, or does it say "I am totally engaged, and even if I say I'm not, I assure you I am"?
If that's not an engagement ring, Minaj should totally marry Mill anyway on the basis that he gives INSANE gifts to someone he's not even planning to marry yet.
And then, of course, we can't forget that Drake, Minaj's longstanding BFF, even congratulated the couple on stage at Coachella. Wouldn't Drake have been informed personally of this monumental life event, thereby knowing for sure that it's actually a thing that's happening? I doubt he'd go on rumors and cryptic Instagram posts like the rest of us have to. And Drake's not even the only fellow rapper who's chimed in about this engagement (or lack thereof). As part of the Fader interview, T.I. also called BS on Mill denying that he proposed after he, too, got caught congratulating his pal.
You never asked her, "Will you be my girlfriend?" But she is your girlfriend. You may not have asked her, "Will you marry me?" But you are engaged. I’ve said my part. As long as you know what’s going on.
Of course, this doesn't really clear things up either, so I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens next — and at this rate, we probably won't know they're engaged for sure until photos surface of Minaj in a wedding dress, saying her vows. Sigh.
