Jussie & Taraji Are #FriendshipGoals

While Empire is on a break, fans like me have to grasp on to whatever news we can to appease our thirst — and yes, the thirst is very real. We had a little treat when the boys of Empire — Bryshere Gray, Jussie Smollett, and Trai Byers — posed in their full bronzed and bare-chested glory on the cover of Essence, and fans around the country swooned. The cast of Empire as a whole has a special place in my heart, but I have a little extra thing for the friendship between Jussie Smollett and Taraji P. Henson. Henson has always been one of my favorite actresses for some time and combined with her obvious chemistry with Smollett, they quickly became my #friendshipgoals.

When I first starting watching Empire, it was so obvious that the love between Cookie and her son, Jamal, was as strong off-screen as it was on-screen. Soon after the show began taking off, neither of the actors were shy to declare their love for each other and they quickly started becoming some of the closest co-stars on the show. So, in an ode to the über talented Jussie Smollett and the queen Taraji P. Henson, here are some of the times they showed off their amazing friendship.

Smollett told Collider,

I think that the It Factor is Taraji P. Henson. That’s our It Factor. Everybody comes to see Cookie, and then hopefully they stay because we’re good enough... I just feel blessed, every single day that I get to go to work and call Taraji and Terrence my co-stars. Even more so, I feel blessed to call them friends. They’re such genuine people, and unselfish artists.
