Will There Be a Jurassic World Sequel?

by Emily Lackey

While it might be true that, Jurassic World doesn't come out until Friday, people are already talking about what is in store for the franchise next. Will there be a sequel to Jurassic World, making it the fifth movie in the Jurassic Park series? Does Jurassic World leave enough hanging at the end to warrant a sequel? And, if so, what would it be about? Will there be more action-packed roles for strong women in the next one? And would it be set on the same island? But, most importantly, will there be enough velociraptors to make me cry like they did when I was 9 years old?

I can only speculate on the answers to those questions, because nothing has been confirmed as of yet, but I can assure you that the answer to the last one is most definitely YES, because the way their nails click on the stainless steel is so TERRIFYING, am I right?

Spoiler alerts have been bouncing around the Internet since last May, when the plot of the film was supposedly leaked in full. Instead of dodging the leak, director Colin Treverrow confirmed the details and got fans even hungrier for the film to come out. But, now that the release date is so close, can we start hoping for more? The word on the street is that we can. Sure it's all conjecture right now, but there are a few reasons why a sequel to Jurassic World is pretty likely:

1. No one in their right mind makes a single movie anymore.

Some movies are even being split in to two just to maximize people's anticipation. There's no way the makers of Jurassic World aren't going to capitalize on THAT.

2. The director is already crossing his fingers to be invited back.

You know that if the director is talking about coming back for more, everyone else behind the scenes is as well. In an exclusive interview with Empire, Trevorrow is quoted as saying, "We definitely talked about [sequels] a lot... We wanted to create something that would be a little bit less arbitrary and episodic, and something that could potentially arc into a series that would feel like a complete story." Yes! Do that, please!

3. The director named the actors he would want to return for the sequel.

Which kind of spoils it for the rest of us, don't you think? Now we obvi know who lives and who dies.

4. For the kids, duh.

There's a whole new generation of kids out there who are going to be scrambling for action figures, trading cards, video games, and stuffed animals. There's also a whole new generation of kids to scare the bejeezus out of, giving them velociraptor nightmares for life. Please get on that, producers!
