7 Inspirational Britney Spears Quotes
Britney Spears is a lot of things, but dull is not one of them. The reigning pop princess has been holding onto her crown for several years now, and for good reason, too. It's not just because she's a chart-topping singer and a jaw-dropping dancer and performer. It's also because she's an exciting and inspirational woman, with a whole lot of street smarts to drop on what she's learned from her life and career. And many of Britney Spears' quotes prove that.
It's not surprising that the 33-year-old has learned a lot in her many years in the spotlight since stealing hearts on The Mickey Mouse Club. Though fame has not always been kind to the "Toxic" hit maker, she is one of the most popular artists ever, has a residency show in Las Vegas, has two adorable kids, and her own fashion line.
It cannot be denied that Spears has paved the way for so many young artists who had similar dreams to hers. Many up-and-coming stars have said they look up to her and see her as a role model and a perfect example for those who also want to become a pop cultural phenomenon and icon someday. And honestly, after reading some of Spears' words of wisdom, it is not hard to see why.
1. On Staying True To Your Voice
"Through that, you create your own world. The song [an unnamed one she'd written] talks about how other people are coming into this girl's world, but she didn't invite them in. So she's saying, 'Why are you here, if I didn't invite you?' It's complicated, but you can tell it's me who wrote it, because it's in my voice, and there's a difference," she told Rolling Stone in 2008.
2. On Evolving
"In the beginning, obviously I was very young and I didn’t know the ins and outs of things; I was very instinctive in what I wanted to do, and I was very vocal with my input on things. I think as the years have gone by, and as I’ve evolved as an artist, I’ve put even more into my career, and after that amount of time you start to know exactly what you want. You feel a little bit more in your skin, in terms of who you are. And that just feels really nice," she said to Stylist in 2011.
3. On What Madonna Taught Her
"I guess she's really taught me to stay true to myself. That seems like a simple thing to say, but she taught me through action, not just by saying it. There are so many people around you that have opinions, but you just have to listen to your instincts," she told Harper's Bazaar in 2011.
4. On Taking Wisdom From Your Mother
“My mom is a wonderful woman,” Spears said to The Telegraph in 2013. “She’s always been an inspiration to me, but having kids helped me make even more sense of my relationship with her. My sons [Sean] Preston and Jayden are eight and seven now – and not only do I find myself doing some of the things my mom used to do, I also understand why she did them.”
5. On Staying Happy & Healthy
"I don't mind working out," she told Women’s Health
in 2014. "I'm at my best when I'm busy. If I don’t work out [in a gym], I’m either swimming laps, or I’m doing yoga." She also added, "Consistency is key."
6. On Saying No
“It’s important to learn to say no. With tours and all of that stuff, there are so many aspects that go into it, it’s easy to have so many people around you saying, ‘oh yes, yes, you can afford this, you can afford this,’ and then all of the sudden you’ve spent $20 million on your stage and you’re like, ‘where’s my money?’ You have to make sure that you’re on top of things and know where the money’s going," she said to Variety in 2014.
7. On Seeing The Bigger Picture
“I’ve been very hands-on with everything I’ve done since I had my children,” she says. “And it’s just really important for me to understand the big picture, where everybody’s coming from, what’s the real purpose of this shoot and this song, or whatever it is in that moment that I’m doing," she said in that same Variety interview.
