Will Kanye West Be At The BET Awards?

by Daniela Cabrera

After the incredible hype following his debut of "Wolves" with Vic Mensa during his Yeezy collection presentation at New York Fashion Week, any more talk of a new album from Kanye West has been overshadowed by his personal life, including his adorable daughter, North West, and the son he'll welcome before long with wife Kim Kardashian. The last live television performance we got from West was at the Billboard Music Awards on May 17, which caught negative attention for its bad sound, which West claimed was due to his set being "grossly over-censored." After the BBMAs it seemed like he might be done with awards shows forever, but I can't help but wonder if Kanye West will at this year's BET Awards?

The rapper has a rich history with the BET Awards, and earlier this year he was saluted at the BET Honors with the Visionary Award and gave a touching and relevant speech in acceptance. Being in the middle of possibly promoting a new album would be the best time to go on awards show, but then again, he also wasn't nominated at this year's BET Awards and isn't listed as a performer. Hmmm.

Another factor to consider in his attendance at the awards is that despite the ridiculous petitions against the fact, Kanye West is still set and scheduled to perform at the Glastonbury Festival in England on Saturday, June 27, the day before the awards show. Many fellow performers and fans are expecting this to be a historic performance, as The Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl told NME that this petition is "only fueling Kanye's f--king fire and it could be the greatest show of all time."

As of Thursday, June 25 Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and Kylie Jenner were all in Cannes, France and this could mean the start of a little European family getaway once Glastonbury is over.

That said, while, yes, England and France are quite a bit away from Los Angeles for a 24-hour trip for the rest of us, given the access West and Kardashian have to jet setting around the world, they could easily make it to the Staples Center by June 28 for the BET Awards. But, honestly, I wouldn't find it to be likely. And if Kanye West isn't nominated or performing, why would Kanye West be there? He's not really a "I'm just making an appearance" kind of guy.
