9 Epic Looks From Alexander McQueen Resort 2016

by Rosie Narasaki

it should come as no surprise that the Alexander McQueen Resort 2016 collection is to die for. OK, let me pose a question to you all: Is Alexander McQueen ever not epic? I really don't think so — I mean, they knock it out of the park on the regular on everyone from Salma Hayek (did you see her killing it in golden polka dots and oversized red roses at Cannes this year?) to Kate Middleton (look no further than her iconic wedding dress, and her extensive collection of coats for proof), and their runway presentations never fall short of amazing.

Luckily for us fashion fans out there, Alexander McQueen's latest runway presentation happens to be the latest in a long line of killer resort shows — Dior's French Riviera show and Chanel's Seoul-inspired show have been particularly fab. McQueen's resort collection included everything from kitschy appliques, to cross-stitched embroidery, to beautifully rendered florals, and of course, all were imbued with that signature McQueen edge (the epitome of the edgy ballerina-esque theme of the collection was an intricate tulle gown, topped with a sharp leather jacket, and a killer cat eye). In short, it was all absolutely beautiful — so why don't we take a gander at some of the best looks?

1. This Floral Jacket/Dress Combo

Mixed prints don't get much more strikingly disparate (or fab) than this.

2. This Lily of the Valley-Covered Ball Gown

YES.

3. This Structured Number

It looks kind of modernly origami-esque, which is a nice counterpart to the fetchingly old lady-ish print.

4. This Belted Tea-Length Dress

OK, whoever ends up wearing this has to wear it with sneakers.

5. This Ultra-Floral Ensemble

There's a lot going on here, and 100% of it is chic.

6. This Leather Coat

It's like Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets the Duchess of Cambridge (AKA everything you could ever ask for from an article of clothing).

7. This Leather Jacket/Ballerina Dress Combo

Ooh, it's BtVS part 2 — remember that time Buffy stopped the apocalypse (you know, for the first time) armed with a crossbow, and wearing a leather jacket over her homecoming dress? Well, this is basically the high-fashion version of that.

8. This Sheer, Embroidered Number

Paging Keira Knightley!

9. This Intricately Applique-d Gown

I can't wait until this dress finds its rightful home on the red carpet of the Emmys.

What do you think? As Creative Director Sarah Burton said to Women's Wear Daily, "It’s the very opposite of last season’s darkness, and all about growth, freshness, springtime — and optimism." What could be more perfect for summer?
