Whatever Happened To 'RHONY's Simon Van Kempen?

by Kenya Foy

Every so often comes a moment in the world of Real Housewives in which a husband arrives and completely hijacks the spotlight from the main cast members. Such was the case with former RHONY's star Alex McCord's husband, Simon van Kempen. Although he did his fair share of interjecting his opinion in the catty drama like Peter Thomas from RHOA, that's really not the reason he's one of the more memorable husbands. That honor mostly has to do with his quirky personality and his eccentric fashions. Thanks to Simon, I will never view a pair of red pleather pants the same way. Needless to say, it's been a while since I've seen much from Simon (or his pants), because the McCords left the show in 2011 and haven't really looked back since.

Apparently, four seasons of non-stop squawking and fighting with the other Housewives became less of a priority for the couple, who chose to move on to other endeavors. This included things like focusing on raising their two sons, Francois and Johan. Even though Simon probably isn't missed by Ramona Singer, Luann de Lesseps, Kelly Bensimon or Jill Zarin (with whom he infamously clashed), I have to say I kind of miss my weekly glimpse at what's going on in the family's red-painted Cobble Hill living room.

On that note, let's see what Simon's been up to since his days on RHONY:

The McCords Moved to Australia

The family left behind their Brooklyn digs to be near their relatives and friends.

Simon Wakes Up Like This

It could be me, but this seems way better than waking up to a camera in your face.

He's in Business With His Brother

And expanding as we speak.

He's Still Quite the Jokester

Oh, Simon. How I miss your one-of-a-kind quips.

He and Alex Are Still Totally in Love

Clearly, Simon and Alex didn't fall victim to the reality TV curse that destroys relationships in one season or less. The happy couple recently celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary.

Simon's Enjoying Being a Father to His Two Sons

Not sure if they've inherited Simon's sense of fashion, but there's still plenty of time for them to adopt their parents' flair for the dramatic. Even without RHONY, it seems like Simon is doing quite well for himself. Then again, I didn't expect anything less.
