When I first heard the shocking news that Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick were breaking up after nine years and three kids together, I'm ashamed to say my first thought was that it was a total play for headlines. After all, if there's one thing Keeping Up With The Kardashians and its many many spinoffs have taught me, it's that nothing is off limits — and that a sordid headline is still a headline. The Kardashian-Jenners are the kings (or queens?) of delving deeper into their own dirty laundry than I would've ever thought possible, putting it all out there on display, and then laughing all the way to the bank. So after 10 seasons of KUWTK showing us everything from how Khloé copes with husband Lamar Odom's drug addiction to tracking Kim and Kanye's quest for Baby No. 2, I figured Scott and Kourtney breaking up again was just another attempt to keep things fresh. We've seen it before; and there are only so many plot lines you can do, y'know?
But so far, there's been one thing that's made me question that whole theory, and it's the knowledge that Kris Jenner is allegedly pissed at Scott Disick, according to People. As the matriarch of the family, Jenner has found a way to monetize almost everything that her family goes through — positive or negative — with the possible exception of Rob Kardashian's weight gain. Personally, I believe that's because it's the one thing she can't control, or that can't be packaged up into a neat storyline. And since Kourtney and Scott's breakup falls into that very same category, I can't help but think Kris is furious at Scott for taking the power out of her hands. According to People, it was a close friend of Disick's who shared the news, claiming:
Kris is furious at Scott. He's just not seeing things clearly. First and foremost, Kris just wants to protect her family. Seeing her kids happy is the most important thing.
Publicly, Kris has remained totally silent about the breakup, which is pretty significant in and of itself. By the looks of her Instagram feed, Jenner has been posting nothing but positivity in the days since Kourtney and Scott first split.
Like that time last week she hung out with Boy George in Canne.
And then rubbed elbows with Melanie Griffith.
The proud mom of six also shared a quick snapshot of her date night with Kylie.
And gushed about her recent trip to Disneyworld with Penelope and North.
No matter what you may think about about her, one thing's for sure: Kris is fiercely loyal to her family. So the fact that she's reportedly now furious with Scott suggests Kourtney didn't break up with him on a whim, or just for the ratings. And that's not all — if what People's inside source says is true, this might just be one of those all-important (and super rare) moments when something in the Kardashian-Jenner family actually comes before the brand. And the fact that Scott's behavior was the catalyst for that decision instead of a calculated move on Kris Jenner's part? Well, that's likely what's so infuriating to Kris. So yeah, the split probably will make for good television; but for once, that doesn't seem to be the only thing on Kris' mind.
