Catch Up With Chloe From 'Dance Moms'

by Caitlin Flynn

In the months since we last saw her on Dance Moms , Chloe Lukasiak has been up to a lot and keeping busy. She's worked hard, appeared in a number of music videos, and has even been nominated for a Teen Choice Award in the "Choice Dancer" category. Her fans couldn't be happier to see Chloe get the recognition she deserves, and her supporters have been excitedly voting for her via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter ever since. Chloe tells Bustle that she and her mom, Christi, received the news of her nomination during their recent trip to Australia.

"It was 3 a.m. and we were super messed up with the time change. [My mom] woke me up and we both started screaming. I'm sure the neighbors really appreciated that!" she remembers. Chloe hasn't yet decided what she'll wear to the August 16 ceremony, but she's excited to shop for a dress when she arrives in Los Angeles. Chloe says her favorite part of her recent Australia and New Zealand dance/press tour was meeting her fans and supporters. "Everyone was so nice, and it was great to meet everyone and dance with them," she tells Bustle. Over the past year, Chloe has enjoyed traveling all over America and Europe, but her very favorite place is home and she says it's always a great feeling to be back in Pennsylvania.

When not traveling, Chloe has been busy training. Her dance skills, though always impressive, have improved by leaps and bounds since she joined Studio 19. She told me her favorite recent routine is "Almost Lover." Watching this beautiful solo, it's pretty clear why Chloe is nominated for Choice Dancer. Her lines, extensions, and flexibility look better than ever, and her turns are flawless. Although Chloe no longer has the exposure of being on TV every week, her dance skills stand on their own, and her fans are more than happy to make the extra effort to seek out her routines online.

Chloe has worked on lots of other projects since leaving Dance Moms, and she says her favorite was the music video for "Alice" by Bianca Ryan. "It was a lot of fun to work with Bianca and I loved my dress," Chloe reveals. The dress is indeed gorgeous, but not as beautiful as Chloe's dancing. (She's too humble to say that, so I will).

Despite Chloe's fame, she enjoys the more normal aspects of her life as well. The 14-year-old will be starting high school in the fall and can't wait. "I'm excited, but a little nervous," she admits. Her favorite class is English, which won't come as a surprise to anyone who follows her on YouTube, where she hosts her own book club. "I love reading and I like to encourage all kids to read," she says.

Chloe has countless fans who look to her as a role model, and she plans on using that platform for good. Beyond just encouraging them to read, she wants to inspire them to achieve their goals. Her advice? "Never give up and never let anyone tell you that you can't do it. If they do, prove them wrong." And, Chloe herself has done just that — dancing well is the best revenge, and she's proven that she's a force to be reckoned with on the stage. Her nomination for "Choice Dancer" is just further confirmation that she is one of the most talented dancers of her generation. But, beyond that, she's just a kind, caring, and inspiring person. No matter who wins at the Teen Choice Awards, Chloe will go far in life.
