Knock It Off With The Emma Watson Rumors Already

by Maggie Malach

Feminist and all-around lovely human being Emma Watson was reportedly the target of a kidnapping plot on the set of her upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast remake. Thankfully, the actress is safe, but that doesn't alter the fact that this is one disturbing rumor. According to the Sun, a taxi driver claimed to overhear two studio workers plotting to abduct the actress. However, new reports confirm that the rumor is simply untrue. Thank goodness.

"The story was looked into by production and found to be unsubstantiated and untrue," a spokesperson told Vogue U.K.

Additionally, Surrey police told the Daily Mail , "Nothing has ever been reported to us." (The movie is currently being filmed in Shepperton Studios in Surrey.)

I'm glad Watson is safe and that the rumor is reportedly just that — hearsay — but unfortunately, it isn't the first time the actress has been the victim of false reports. From her personal life to alleged auditions, she's debunked more than one rumor. Below are seven of the most outlandish reports about Watson's life.

1. She's Dating Prince Harry

Sadly, Watson shot this one down, tweeting, "Remember that little talk we had about not believing everything written in the media?!"

2. She Took Nude Photos

In a HeForShe Q&A, Watson cleared this up, saying, “I knew it was a hoax — I knew the pictures didn’t exist — but I think a lot of people close to me knew gender equality was an issue, but they didn’t really think it was that urgent.”

3. She Auditioned For Fifty Shades Of Grey

Watson also shot this down on Twitter, saying:

4. She Is Playing Ariel In The Live-Action The Little Mermaid

While Watson is starring in a live-action Disney movie, it isn't The Little Mermaid. Bummer.

4. She Died In A Car Accident In 2009

OK, we all know this isn't true, despite reports to the contrary.

5. She Was Attending Columbia University

Again, history (and her diploma from Brown University) debunk this myth.

6. She's A Lesbian

“I had journalists asking me if this meant I was coming out, if I was a lesbian now,” Watson told the Independent, following the debut of her pixie cut. Are you freaking kidding me, people?

Needless to say, I think we can all be grateful for one thing: The incredibly gracious way the former Hermione Granger deals with all this nonsense. Keep doing what you're doing, girl.
