Taylor Swift Lyrics Turned Into A Love Poem

by Caitlyn Callegari

I love Taylor Swift. I love her as a human, as a singer, as a celebrity, as musician, as a role model, as a fashionista, but, mostly, I love her as a writer. From the first time I heard “Teardrops on My Guitar,” I’ve looked to Swift for any and all lyrical love guidance and catharsis, and so far, in the near decade I’ve been a fan, she hasn’t done me wrong. Not even once. So, since Swift is my own personal love guru, I figured I’d try my hand at penning a similarly epic and sappy ode. But, not a song. I’m not that cool. Nor am I that talented. In fact, I'm just going to turn Taylor Swift's lyrics into a love poem, because I can.

Swift has given us all a wealth of emotional love songs to do with as we please, and I think it’s high time I take advantage of that special gift. With Swift’s prolific romantic musing greatness, I have been inspired to mash together her lyrics to form my own epic love poem. It’s ambitious, yes, but I’ve always been a bit in over my head with most endeavors I’ve tried, anyway.

Here is a conglomeration of Swift’s love lyrics, to form the sappiest love poem I could think of.

I still remember the look on your face Lit through the darkness at 1:58We're singing in the car, getting lost UpstateYou’re my best friendAnd your eyes look like coming home

2 AM, here we areOh, your sweet disposition and my wide-eyed gaze See your face, hear my voice in the darkI'm on my guard for the rest of the world But with you I know it's no goodI lose myself in a daydreamHave you ever thought just maybe You belong with me?

2 AM, who do you love?I can't decide if it's a choice Getting swept awayHolding onThe days drag onAnd I confess, babeIn my dreams, you're touching my face
I got tired of waiting Wondering if you were ever coming aroundThese hands had to let it go free And this love came back to meYou learn my secrets and you figure out why I’m guarded You say we’ll never make my parents’ mistakesAnd you don't know how nice that is, but I doI love you because you have given me no choice but to
You said it in a simple way,4 AM, the second day,You're beautifulEvery little piece loveEverything I need is right here by my sideAnd when the sun came up, you were looking at me

As it turns out, poetry writing isn't that hard when you have someone else's words to pave the way. Thanks, Taylor Swift, for being such an inspiration.
