The National Women’s Soccer League is about to kick off its 2026 season. Here’s everything you need to know, from standout players to the stories that’ll shape the league this year.

As of 2026, women’s pro soccer is the tenth-largest sport in the world. But by 2030 — just four years from now — it’s predicted to become the fifth-largest and reach 800 million fans, according to a 2025 report by Nielsen Sports and PepsiCo. And the numbers back it up: Last season, the National Women’s Soccer League saw record growth in viewership, attendance, and digital engagement, and this year two expansion teams — Boston and Denver — are joining the league.

Which is why, ahead of the 2026 season kickoff on March 13, Bustle is rolling out its inaugural NWSL Game Changers package. Throughout the week, we’ll introduce you to the players you’ll be cheering for, hear experts’ predictions for the year ahead, and a lot more. You’ll also learn what makes these soccer stars tick, read about their pregame rituals and routines (spoiler: lots of pickle juice shots are involved), and discover books, documentaries, and podcasts to further immerse yourself in the sport. Dive in with us — we’re just getting started.
